Journalist Neil Jones has given his backing to reports claiming Liverpool are set to sign Matheus Nunes. The player is currently at Wolves.
The Telegraph surprised many this week by reporting that Liverpool are nearing a deal for Matheus Nunes. The midfielder only joined Wolves in the summer but the Reds will apparently get him for £44m this summer.
The line was almost buried in the article but journalist Neil Jones believes you can completely trust it’s true. Those reporting it are entirely connected, he says.
“First thing to say is that’s a live story,” said Jones on Redmen TV. “Those two [journalists] putting their name to that, you can trust that story.

“John Percy is as connected as you can get; he’ll have the Wolves angle, as well. Sam Wallace is pretty well connected as well.”
Liverpool set to sign Matheus Nunes
As Jones says, it’s coming from an incredibly reliable source. If they’re saying it, Liverpool are almost certainly pushing towards that deal.

And it’s one we’d welcome. Nunes would be a fantastic signing and one we see as ideal for Liverpool’s midfield. Our only real problem with the transfer is that it’s not happening this month.
Let alone last summer, when Liverpool were initially linked with Nunes. Reports all over Portugal claimed they were after the midfielder, only for him to join Wolves.

Now Liverpool look like paying a premium to get him a year later and after a season in which their midfield fell apart. We can only imagine there was a financial reason for it, otherwise there will be big questions asked of the club.
But that’s the negative way of looking at things. We’re still positive on this idea and hope Nunes is a Liverpool player by the end of 2023.
Then we can start hoping he’s not the only midfielder arriving at Anfield.
