Arsenal defender Ben White is being tipped to make a surprise switch to Premier League rivals Manchester City by one pundit.
The England international is enjoying an impressive campaign for the table-topping Gunners, where he has been operating as a right-back for the majority of the season so far.
And now former West Ham and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie has backed the 25-year-old to join City.
Italian outlet Calciomercato claims that Pep Guardiola is a fan of the former Brighton man and is interested in a deal, although it’s highly unlikely to transpire in January.
City are currently Arsenal’s closest rivals in the title race, currently sitting eight points behind the Gunners with a game in hand.
But despite that rivalry, McAvennie sees no reason why White should not swap The Emirates for The Etihad.
He told Football Insider: “He has made that right-back position his own at Arsenal and I do not see why he would not go to City. He is at the stage in his career that he is kicking on and wanting to win trophies.
“I do not know if they are going to win trophies at Arsenal. They are a very good team but Liverpool are kicking in now, Man City and even Man United now.
“I think they have a good first XI, I think after that they struggle. I do not think Arsenal has the same kind of squad as Man City, that will be their problem.
“He will want to win things and he will look at Man City. He will need to think he can make that position his own at City. I do not know if Arsenal will win things this year.”White versatility attractive to Guardiola
White is currently under contract until 2026, having joined Arsenal for £50million in the summer of 2021.
That price has surely gone up since, given the versatility White has shown in north London.

Quite whether City need another defender on their books remains to be seen. However, Guardiola is a big fan of players who can play in multiple positions.
As for Mikel Arteta’s stance, he would surely not allow a player of such importance to join a rival such as City.
