Kevin Durant will go down as one of the most talented, skilled, and lethal players in the NBA. He’s a gifted scorer that can give rivals nightmares at the three levels with his combination of size and abilities.
Durant is now a legend of the game, but he had to fight hard to be where he is right now, shocking everybody with his talents. Like every all-time great player, he was inspired by somebody who came before him, and even though he says he still studies what Kobe Bryant did on the court, his inspiration was somebody else.
Curiously, one of the people Kobe enjoyed and struggled to play against the most was the one that inspired Durant. During a recent conversation with legendary sixth man Jamal Crawford on NBA TV, he revealed the player that inspired his game, Tracy McGrady.
Kevin Durant Names Tracy McGrady The Player He Tried To Emulate
McGrady’s career was full of ups and downs, but when he was at his best level, he could do incredible things. Many kids around the states and the rest of the world saw him do his team in Toronto, Orlando, and Houston, including Durant, who was in awe of the shooting guard growing up.
“T-Mac stood out because I feel like we had a similar body type,” Durant told Jamal Crawford. “We had the similar move with the hesi pull-up. He started it, I felt like, and I tried to take it from him. So I tried to watch his games as much as I could and check his movements and tried to emulate everything I seen.”
KD really admired McGrady, and the best part is that the guard replied to these remarks, showing respect to the Slim Reaper.
Durant has been very active in making statements in recent days. He’s ready to take the Brooklyn Nets to the promised land once and for all this season. If anybody wants to mess with him or his team, KD will be ready to fire back and show that they’re the real deal in the Eastern Conference.
