There’s A Specific Reason Selena Gomez Absolutely Hates Giving Interviews

Blossoming from humble beginnings, Selena Gomez has arguably become one of the most popular stars in the music and entertainment industry. Between the years 2007 and 2012, Gomez starred in the highly popular Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place, launching her to instant fame at the young age of 15 years old. However, her journey didn’t stop there. During her time on Wizards of Waverly Place, Gomez would also release her first-ever album, titled Another Cinderella Story, in 2009. The album was a huge success, and further solidified her position as both an actor and singer within the industry.

Since then, the American superstar has gone on to release a string of highly successful albums, with some of her greatest hits including Lose You To Love Me, Good For You, The Heart Wants What It Wants, and Come & Get It. Her undeniable success as an artist and actress has earned her an extremely loyal fan base stretching far across the globe, alongside an estimated net worth of around $85 million. Although she has achieved great feats, it seems that Selena hasn’t always been happy while being in the spotlight.

Selena Gomez Has Not Always Been A Fan Of Fame

At the young age of fifteen, Gomez found herself thrust into the spotlight. Despite achieving such wild heights of success that many would dream of at such a young age, the Lose You To Love Me singer has also spoken out against the darker side of fame.

These sentiments are echoed throughout her latest exclusive documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, which was released on Apple TV. On multiple occasions, the singer emphasized her disdain for fame, making several comments that would emphasize her desire to escape from it all.

In an interview with Business Of Fashion, Gomez noted how she began to notice how ‘slimy the industry was in certain areas’ from a young age.

She often noted that she felt ‘violated’ from a young age on many occasions, saying, “I remember just feeling really violated when I was younger, even just being on the beach. I was maybe 15 or 16 and people were taking pictures — photographers. I don’t think anyone really knew who I was. But I felt very violated and I didn’t like it or understand it, and that felt very weird, because I was a young girl and they were grown men. I didn’t like that feeling.”

In the same interview, Gomez also opened up about the negative impacts of social media, including how despite having such a large following, she also felt as though ‘she had no friends’. She also added that she had to figure out ‘the people that are in your circle’.

A recent interview on TaTaTu podcast in 2022 again reinforced the similar sentiments to the world of fame for Gomez, with the Good For You singer stating that she hopes to ‘be a mom one day’, adding that “Eventually, I’m going to be tired of all of this, so I’m probably just going to devote most of my life to philanthropy before I peace out.”

Just from a handful of interviews, alongside Gomez’s new documentary, it is clear that she is not the biggest fan of living life in the spotlight.

The singer has noted some upsides to living life in the spotlight. Talking to Interview Magazine in 2020, Gomez expressed her gratitude for the fact that she can use her platform to help people and make a positive impact in people’s lives: “A huge part of why I have a platform is to help people. That’s why I think I’m okay with the magnitude.”

Selena Says She Feels Like A ‘Product’ During Interviews

Following on from both new and old interviews, Selena Gomez’s 2022 My Mind & Me documentary opened fans up for an exclusive look inside her world like never before. From the get-go, fans were given a deeper insight into the singer’s personal life, with the documentary mainly focusing on her mental health struggles throughout the years.

For a segment of the documentary, Gomez embarked on a series of interviews for the promotion of her 2020 album, Rare. Yet it was evident that the singer was not enjoying herself. After one particular interview, Gomez was seen crying in the dressing room.

In the scene, she stated she ‘felt like a product’ and that she felt like the interviewer wasn’t even listening to what she was saying.

However, her lack of enthusiasm was also noticeable during the rest of her promotional interviews during My Mind & Me – it was clear that the star was not enjoying herself.

While the star clearly isn’t a fan of fame, it looks like Gomez one day hopes to settle down and maybe even become a mom one day.
