And if you are not a devout believer in the ghost stories told of ancient tombs and cursed artifacts, you must recognize how dangerous archeology is in the long run. For starters, you must recognize that these individuals actually risk their life on a daily basis. People believe that archeology is all about searching and discovering ancient objects, but there is so much more to it. Thousands of archeologists have lost their lives or careers as a result of accidents caused by traps found deep within each of these mausoleums and tombs. We might all imagine these archeologists as Lara…

Silfra Fissure in Iceland is the only place on this planet where you can dive between two continents. Touching North America and Europe at the same time. Source Located in Iceland’s Thingvellir (Þingvellir) National Park, Silfra fissure is a gap formed between the North American and Eurasian plates on the divergent tectonic boundary. Simply saying, it is the only location in the world where you can swim directly between the North American and European continents. Silfra fissure opened in 1789, due to the movements of the North American and Eurasian plates, which run all the way through Iceland. The two plates…
This unusual, 8-inch long marine worm looks like something out of a nightmare — a luxury nightmare, for that matter. Matthew Brown/NIWA In the vast Southern Ocean near Antarctica, there lives a giant polynoid worm that has some really peculiar looks. The two most stand-out characteristics of Eulagisca gigantea are its golden-bristled abdomen and a disturbing toothy grin on what appears to be its head, making it look like the creepiest luxury item ever. As weird as it may look, research suggests it could be crucial to the health of our ecosystems. Image credit: Matthew Brown/NIWA The latin name of bristle worms…
Caught on Camera: Rare ‘wave clouds’ appear over WyomingPhoto by: Courtesy Toni Bolin”Wave Clouds” appear over the Bighorn MountainsBy: Q2 NewsPosted at 12:36 PM, Dec 07, 2022 and last updated 3:05 AM, Dec 08, 2022 Several Q2 viewers have sent us some amazing photos of rare “wave clouds” that appeared over the Bighorn Mountains on Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Billings has explained the cloud formations are called “Kelvin-Helmholtz waves.” A BBC article once described them as “One of the rarest and most fleeting formations, this cartoon-like breaking wave is the Holy Grail for many cloud-spotters.” Q2’s Ed McIntosh explains the cloud formation…
There’s a Facebook group called Mushroomcore, and it has nearly 30,000 members who share all kinds of cool photos and stories of fungi. However, some species continue to surprise even the biggest nature lovers. Like the Dead Man’s Fingers (Xylaria polymorpha). In June, Regan Daniels from North Carolina uploaded a few pictures to the group of what looked to be a body part of a corpse saying, “Saw this Dead Man’s Fingers (or toes in this case) fungus that I literally thought was a Halloween decoration!” Her snaps instantly went viral, and a few people even said they were fake. But Daniels reassured…
The saying “lightning never strikes the same place twice” obviously does not cover Venezuela’s Lake Maracaibo and the so-called Catatumbo strikes, which occur only in this part of the world. Image credit: Image Credit: Happy Traveler via Book All Safaris At 13,210 square kilometers (5,100 square miles) Lake Maracaibo was once South America’s largest lake and is also thought to be one of the oldest lakes on Earth. However, it was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records for a different reason: During the region’s rainy season (starting at around October), this otherwise sleepy lake lights up with an impressive…
American and Canadian chefs are just learning what Mexicans have long known: a bluish fungus that infects corn and has been considered a scourge by most U.S. farmers is actually delicious. So much so that scientists are now trying to figure out how to purposefully grow it. Image credit: David Cohen One evening last July, Sean Brock, an executive chef and restaurant owner based in Charleston, learned from a local farmer that the special Mexican variety of White Bolita corn he had commissioned him to grow had been infested with corn smut, a plant disease caused by the pathogenic fungus Ustilago maydis.…
The NASA lead scientific officer Jim Green recently released a new release, stating that the European Space Agency would soon find alien activity on Mars in a few months. According to him, the finding will occur before 2021, as the planet is fully able to recognize the presence of alien life. The Daily Telegraph was the publication that questioned Mr. Green and claimed in that interview that when the announcement is made, the future will shift eternally. He also voiced his reservations on the route, mentioning that considering the reality that he personally does not see the universe like anyone…
Thousands of people in the US, Canada, and Europe received an odd post card in the mail today, according to my research. With a plethora of odd symbols and numbers, it says “They’re coming.” One of the numbers appears to be a phone number with a Roswell, New Mexico area code. We were disconnected after 30 seconds of odd static, clicking, and wind-whooshing noises. Every time we call, we hear the same sound. After doing some investigation, I discovered that people on Reddit are debating this matter quite seriously, with everyone offering their viewpoint. According to a Reddit member, “When…
Have you ever seen the lesser bird of paradise? I’m not sure why it has the word “lesser” because when you take one look at it, you’ll fall in love and would be mesmerized by its beauty! Scientifically known as Paradisaea minor, these 32cm long birds are mostly found in Papua New Guinea, Misool and Yapen. Male birds have deep maroon feathers, a bright yellow crown, a frost blue beak, and a buff upper back. Their throats are stunning emerald-green and, to add to their beauty, a pair of long-tail wires and elongated flank plumes complete their look. The females,…
Even though this bird’s coloring could impress any fashion designer, it doesn’t like to show off. The varied bunting (Passerina Versicolor) is a shy bird and often hides in desert scrubs. It is a songbird from the cardinal Cardinalidae family. A sturdy bird with a very short tail, males are only 4.3-5.5 inches long. They have a mosaic of rich plum, crimson, lavender, violet, cherry red, and blue, becoming browner towards fall. The females and the young ones are light to chestnut brown and speckled with white. Most varied buntings live in Mexico, but they spill across the US border.…

The natural world around us is full of miracles that sometimes humans cannot fully explain. For example, recently, the image of a fish is said to be a carp, but the head is no different from a bird that makes people constantly talk. The man tried to hold the fish. A social media account has just posted a video of a guy trying to lift a fish with a special shape to take a picture. Due to the fish’s natural response when not in the water, it constantly struggles, looking extremely alive. Therefore, many people believe that this is not…
The gigantic belly bulged, 22-foot-long python was discovered in a rubbish area. The locals asserted that the snake had been consuming household and stray animals to survive. The large serpent was spotted slithering among abandoned construction materials at a deserted construction site in the province of Sisaket. When animal handlers came, they were able to rescue the animal from the complex nest it had constructed behind a group of deteriorated concrete pillars. One of them, Piyachat Charoensopha, said it was one of the biggest snakes they had ever seen. The snake may have consumed stray animals while it was spending…
These images demonstrate how a warthog and two baboons that adore riding on his back have developed an unexpected bond. When the animals first met at Zɪᴍʙᴀʙᴡᴇ’s “Free to be Wild” wildlife rehabilitation facility, they formed a special bond. After being washed down in a river during a flood with his sister, 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 warthog Bangwe was brought to the facility where he met baboon Umfazi who had previously been there for a year. After her mother was fatally ᴍᴜʀᴅᴇʀed on a farm four years ago, the infant baboon was saved when she was only a few weeks old. The monkey…
The Dinka people of South Sudan are known all over the world for their height. Their homeland is sometimes referred to as the land of giants – understandably so, as on average, their men stand almost 6ft and women are not lagging much behind, either. This nightmarish parasitic isopod lives in the mouth of fish, replacing their tongues and feasting on their blood. These isopods live in the mouths of fish rent free. Image source: MrMiracle27 While we at Earthly Mission have previously covered some truly creepy marine creatures, such as the Atlantic wolffish, or the sarcastic fringehead, the tongue-eating louse may top it all off when it comes to creepiness. The Cymothoa exigua, or the tongue-eating louse, is an isopod (a group of animals, which also includes crabs and shrimp) that spends most of its life inside the mouths of different fish. They are known to remove the tongue,…
Scientists have just discovered a strange creature with a fish-like body but frog legs on the coast of the city of Santos, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. This creature has a fish-like appearance with two fins developed next to the body. The fin looks both like a frog’s leg and like an outstretched wing. Based on the shape, scientists can guess this strange creature is a mutated long-nosed batfish. So its mouth grows a scary-looking mass of excess flesh. The fishermen were taken aback when they came across this odd critter that appeared to be from another planet. Oscar Lundahl nearly jumped out of his fishing boat when he first saw the strange-looking species with bulbous eyes. The Latin name of the ratfish is Chimaeras Monstrosa Linnaeus. It started from the Greek mythological creature with a dragon’s tail and a lion’s head. Strange creatures are rarely caught since they live in deep water. They may have developed big eyes to help them see in such deep, dark places. Oscar, a 19-year-old fishing guide of Nordic Sea Angling, ᴀᴄᴄɪᴅᴇɴᴛly caught…
Wildlife photographer Chris Brunsᴋɪʟʟ was left astonished when he saw a cunning jaguar ambush and ᴋɪʟʟ a yacare caiman after a protracted and difficult struggle on a river in a remote part of Bʀᴀᴢɪʟ. Dramatic pictures showed the big cat surprising the reptile and pouncing on it, starting an uncommon ғɪɢʜᴛ to the ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ. The young jaguar wrestled with the caiman for more than twenty minutes, sinking its massive jaws into the reptile’s neck and the back of its skull. The predator turned prey for a much larger animal and the caiman bravely attempted to flee but was dragged deeper…
The incredible effort to rescue a young elephant from a 25-foot-deep well is seen in this video. In Jharkhand, India’s most eastern state, the calf accidently fell into the waterhole, but humans were able to save it. They used a JCB digger to carve a ramp out of the well’s ridge as they pumped tons of water for two hours to float the elephant to the top. The beast ultimately clambered out onto the land before meandering off to rejoin its herd, to the noisy whooping of the bewildered onlookers. The big gray thing was rolling around in the shallow…
