The Los Angeles Lakers are recognized as one of the biggest NBA franchises. They have 17 NBA Championships to their name and they are tied with the Boston Celtics with the most NBA titles in the history of the league.
So the Lakers certainly have a rich history and even won a title recently in 2020. Despite that, if you have followed the Purple and Gold over the last 10 years or so, they haven’t looked like a dominant organization.
The most recent example of it was when the team failed to advance to the postseason last season. It was quite surprising due to the fact they had LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook on the roster.
The franchise is trying very hard to change its fortunes and make a phenomenal comeback next season. But there’s no guarantee of it happening.
The Los Angeles Lakers Have Averaged Just 33.5 Wins Per Season Since 2012
An NBA fan on Reddit took the liberty of pointing out the fact that the Lakers have had a win percentage of just 41.9 over the last 10 seasons. To put this into perspective, the team has played a total of 799 games in that time span and ended up winning just 335 games.
But that’s not all, there’s more to it. The Lakers might have won an NBA Championship in the 2019-20 season, but in the last 10 seasons, they haven’t been a constant playoff team.
The Purple and Gold have managed to qualify for the playoffs just three times and have won only four playoff series in 10 years. Keeping these stats in mind, the Lakers really need to have a few strong seasons in the near future. Otherwise, it might finally be time to admit that the Lakers are no longer a powerhouse in the NBA.
