During his ride along the side of the road, a passing cyclist spotted a two-meter long python eating a possum. Brisbane locals gathered around this ferocious exhibition when motorcyclist Adrian Brand showed up and started firing rounds.
The possum, according to Mr. Brand, must have fallen off the tree. The python would have been waiting for it when it was nodding off. It was suffocating to ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ.
The possum was still alive when Brand first got on the sᴄᴇɴᴇ. He picked up the snake and relocated it off the road. You can see how the snake clung tenaciously to its prey when it was moved in the photograph below.
Possums, a type of mammal, live in Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀ. Pythons, one of its regular predators, take advantage of the marsupials leaving the safety of the trees to ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋ. As more highways are constructed and encroach on possum habitats, there have been more reports of these encounters.
A carpet python can grow to be three meters long. They are not harmful to people, despite the fact that they mostly prey on possums, rodents, and occasionally domestic pets. The carpet python can detect the body heat of its prey thanks to heat-sensitive pits on its upper and lower lips.
