While I was conversing with Carrie Pedersen from Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada, about her 1966 Chevelle, It was easy to tell she loved this ride… and how can you blame her? It’s a true SS (not a clone), equipped with a powerful 396 engine.
The body work and also the unique paint color “Aztec Bronze” was painted by Blacksmith Auto located in Hilcrest, Alberta, Canada. This is close to where Carrie lives with her husband in Pincher Creek and own an automotive shop by the name of Wild West Auto.
The 396 engine was rebuilt and balanced with a Demon Carburetor 650, Pistons 030 over, Cam Isky 264 mega Hyd, Roller Rockers, and an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold. The Chevelle’s Transmission is a TH400 2500 stall and has Headman headers 2 1/2″ exhaust. While driving a high powered muscle car like this one, a good braking system is important. Carrie put on 4 wheel disc brakes, 13″ slotted rotor in the front, and 12″ slotted rotors in the rear.
The wheels are 17″ Boyd Cottington in the front, and 18″ in the back. With raw power like a 396 it would be a shame to keep it locked up in the garage, that’s why Carrie said “This car is a head turner, not a trailer queen”. Well said Carrie, indeed it is and I can’t imagine one not taking a second glance at this classic as it rumbles past them.
The 1966 SS Chevelle is one of the most popular muscle cars out there and for a good reason. They look and run great with a style all of their own.Regardless of what a car enthusiasts personal favorite muscle car might be, one can’t help but show the ’66 Chevelle some respect! If you’re ever up her way and need some auto work done, visit Carrie’s shop Wild West Auto in Alberta, Canada.
