A tiny baby monkey was clinging to its deceased mother, whose lifeless body hung from a leopard’s mouth, during this dreadful moment. The juvenile vervet monkey put itself in great risk by refusing to let go of its mother after the predator pounced at Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. On October 14, while on a hunt, the leopards, under the leadership of a female named Olimba, killed the youngster.
‘Nature is not always attractive, and this picture clearly reminds us the cruel truth of life,’ said wildlife photographer Shafeeq Mulla of Chipata, Zambia, who captured the heartbreaking incident on camera.
