LeBron James Would Still Have More All-Time Points Than Kevin Durant If He Never Dunked Or Made A 3-Pointer

LeBron James is well on his way to surpassing Michael Jordan as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. Given the impossibility of a player’s lifetime being able to match Kareem, many people assumed that Kareem Abdul-record Jabbar’s would endure. LeBron, though, has fully refuted that, scoring more than 40 points during his last two games.

Kevin Durant is arguably the best pure scorer of this generation, giving everyone buckets from everywhere on the court whenever he wants to. He is the closest active player to LeBron on the list (Carmelo Anthony isn’t retired but isn’t on a roster this season) in 18th place with 26,590 career points.

To further highlight how incredible LeBron has been as a scorer in his career, the man who will soon be the all-time leading scorer of the NBA has more points than KD’s entire career even if you remove all 3-pointers or dunks that LBJ has made in his career.

How Much Has LeBron James Scored On Dunks And 3-Pointers?

LeBron has 2,154 dunks in his career, which is good for 4,308 points by ensuring he puts the ball through the hoop with his own hands. He has made 2,199 3-pointers in his career, which has led to 6,597 points from beyond the arc. Adding them both means we have to remove 11,265 points from LeBron’s current points total of 37,903.

This would mean that LeBron has scored 26,638 points when you remove the points he has earned via 3s or dunks. That alone would place LeBron as the 17th leading scorer in NBA history, edging out George Gervin’s 26,595 points and behind Gervin, Kevin Durant, who has 26,590. KD is bound to cross Gervin the next game he plays.

This stat is true for now but KD will get to add more points to his tally across the floor while LeBron might not be able to match that scoring to extend his 48-point lead as of now. James might not be remembered as a scorer but it is often understated the level at which he has been the most consistent bucket-getters in the NBA.
