Right now, Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets are in a great spot. They have a great record, consistently outperform their competitors, and demonstrate that they still pose a threat to the rest of the NBA.
Following a tumultuous start to the season, with the firing of Steve Nash and another controversy from Kyrie Irving, the Nets bounced back and now have one of the best records in the league, competing against anybody every day.
This team is looking like an actual contender, and Durant couldn’t be happier about it. The 2x NBA champion is raving about his new head coach Jacque Vaughn and the rest of the team is feeling him too.
Kevin Durant Is Happy With The Nets’ Current Moment
The Nets rank second in the East, only trailing the Boston Celtics with a 23-12 record. Following a big win against Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night, Durant talked about the good moment of the team, throwing shade at former head coach Steve Nash, saying that the team didn’t have an identity before.
“I felt like we didn’t have an identity to start the season,” Durant said after the game. “And then we started to figure it out… last month or so starting to move. We figuring out our identity as a team and you walk into every game believing that, alright, if we stick to this template and to this structure that we have we’ll be fine regardless of what goes on in the game.”
After Nash was released as the Nets’ head coach, KD talked with Chris Haynes about the reason why he requested a trade during the offseason, revealing that he didn’t feel good about the direction the coaching staff had for the players and he wanted to focus on different things than Nash.
That’s when Vaughn showed up and showed KD that the team needed a different direction indeed. Nash was fired a couple of games into the season, leaving the Nets after only two trips to the playoffs, with the second round in the 2021 season as their best result.
Now, this team is thriving, and even Kyrie Irving is doing incredible things. Fans haven’t heard anything bad about the Nets recently, and that’s something great for the front office and the fans.
