The Las Vegas Raiders selected Tyree Wilson seventh overall in last night’s draft and that could mean a world of pain for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
After Vegas picked the athletic edge rusher in the top ten of Thursday night’s NFL Draft first round, Mahomes tweeted at Wilson asking for a favor.
‘Take it easy on me big dawg!! @tyreewilson77 congrats tho!!,’ the Super Bowl LVII MVP posted.
While the Chiefs and Raiders are bitter rivals – arguably the biggest rivals in the AFC West division – Mahomes and Wilson share a common bond: they both played their college ball at Texas Tech.
Last season with the Red Raiders, Wilson racked up seven sacks – tied for the fourth best mark in the Big 12 Conference and within the top-50 nationally.
Super Bowl LVII winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes called out Tyree Wilson Thursday night
Wilson was drafted seventh overall by the Las Vegas Raiders, the division rival of the Chiefs
A dominant edge rusher, Wilson will be terrorizing quarterbacks across the league this season
That led Mahomes to ask his fellow Red Raider to ‘take it easy’ on him when they meet this year
Both Wilson & Mahomes share an alma mater after playing their college ball at Texas Tech
That mark led Texas Tech to 29 total sacks as a squad, the best in the Big 12 and inside the top-25 of all Power Five conference teams.
Meanwhile, Mahomes thrived under head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s pass-oriented offense when he started in Lubbock in 2015 and 2016.
In both seasons, the quarterback was top-five in all of college football for passing yards – including 2016 when he was the top passer in the country as the only signal caller with over 5,000 yards through the air.
The teams are set to play each other twice this season, but it’s not exactly clear when those dates will be. The NFL is set to release its full season schedule in May.
