JJ Redick had some things to get off his chest about the Sacramento Kings vs. Golden State Warriors first-round series. The retired sharpshooter has seen some questionable decisions from referees and is calling them out.
During Wednesday’s edition of ESPN’s First Take, Redick touched on some topics that he’s seen and hasn’t liked at all.
“[The officials] have allowed too much in this series. They have allowed too much,” Redick said emphatically. “I have no problem with physical play in the playoffs. But if Steph Curry is not allowed to move off the ball… If you’re preventing players from running down the court and you’re allowing that to happen… There was a play late in Game 2 where Kevon Looney is underneath the rim ready for a rebound and Sabonis crashes in, pushes him in the back. They don’t call the foul. That’s a foul.

“The referees have dictated too much in the Kings’ favor in the series. I really believe that, and I don’t know if it’s the home crowd or whatever. I rarely complain about the referees. In fact, I don’t know if I’ve ever complained about the referees. I think they’re great. But if [the Warriors] are going to come back in the series, they’ve gotta call the game the way the game is supposed to be called.”

This is a big claim from Redick, who has become a respected analyst thanks to pointing out the things that nobody else notices. This job will be difficult to carry out for the Warriors, especially now that Draymond Green has been suspended for Game 3 of the series.
After stomping on Domantas Sabonis’ chest, the big man received a suspension, with the Warriors being mad at the league over this decision.

Now, the situation looks complicated for the Dubs. Added to the fact that they won’t have Draymond on the court, they need to be extra aware of the decisions the referees make. Perhaps the change of venue can benefit them, but that’s not how things should work.
The Warriors remain confident that they can turn things around, but they need to stop playing around, get it together and play their best basketball. The Kings are in a very good position now, and if they manage to get another win, the situation will be perfect for them as they try to win their first playoff series in over a decade.
