Tom Cruise’s constantly burgeoning budget for his increasingly riskier Mission: Impossible film is a thing not of concern but hope and profitability for the studio that has most steadfastly backed the actor over the decades since the 90s. In the years since the release of the last MI movie Fallout in 2017, the actor has digressed over into the terrains of impossible life-threatening stunts that could not only end a studio’s reputation but run it into the ground overnight. Despite the risks involved, Tom Cruise has managed to deliver films fit for the filmography of a megastar.

Tom Cruise flies off a cliff in Dead Reckoning
With the franchise that Cruise has so carefully built since the late 90s now coming to an end, it is understandable why the Mission Impossible actor would want to up the stakes to heights that have never been attempted before. His upcoming movie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is being built on a budget of $290 million, a staggering $112 million more than Fallout‘s budget which stood at a more reasonable $178 million. The film will be the penultimate chapter in Ethan Hunt’s globe-trotting adventure.
Tom Cruise Pulls Out All the Stops For Dead Reckoning
Soon after the release of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Tom Cruise had begun mapping out the blueprints for Dead Reckoning – the final saga in his stint as the IMF agent and superspy, Ethan Hunt. However, the pandemic had thrown a wrench in the well-oiled machine that was Cruise’s career. The subsequent delays that were faced in the production of the film then led to a ballooning budget that exceeded well over his last MI film.

Adding to the bottomless list of hazards to Dead Reckoning‘s production was that the film was expected to shoot in different countries and locations throughout the globe. Safety protocols needed to be maintained, permits needed to be sanctioned by the specific locales, and entire crews had to be put in quarantine along with the studio bearing the cost of delay and gears to comply with the COVID-19 safety protocols. Tom Cruise failed to be deterred by the endless list of preventative measures at every step but it also had Paramount writing out checks that tallied up to an impossible $290 million.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 premieres on 14 July 2023.
