Two players who could replace Bruno Fernandes in number 10 role vs Sevilla

Manchester United are set to be without Bruno Fernandes when they face Sevilla in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final on Thursday.

The Portuguese received his third yellow card of the competition in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford last week and he will now serve a one-match suspension.

His absence is definitely a huge blow for United, considering he has made regular goal contributions since the restart after the World Cup break.

Hence, manager Erik ten Hag has a big decision to make over his replacement and in our opinion, Christian Eriksen could be the preferred pick.

The Dane started off his career as an attacking midfielder but he has largely played in the number eight role over the past couple of seasons.

Despite this, he could be United’s best solution in the absence of Fernandes, given Marcel Sabitzer could be ruled out after his injury on Sunday.

Compared to Sabitzer, Eriksen is a more natural in the position and has the ability to pick out key passes.

We could see Fred partnering compatriot Casemiro in the centre of the park if Eriksen is pushed forward.

The other alternative could be Jadon Sancho, who has been tried out in the role on a couple of occasions.

Sancho could be an effective option from the number 10 position as he possesses good dribbling skills and the ability to provide through balls.

As a winger, the Englishman has struggled with his limited pace and Ten Hag could groom him into a genuine attacking midfielder in future.

Sancho has come close to scoring in the first minute of the last two matches. Hopefully, he will be third time lucky against Sevilla in midweek.
