In the center of Yellowstone Country, on more than 17,000 functional acres of pristine wilderness, the Mountain Sky Guest Ranch is situated in Emigrant, Park County, Montana. The property starts at the bottom of the aptly named Paradise Valley, close to the Yellowstone River, and climbs upward through grassy hillsides, sagebrush-covered meadows, dense pine forests, and aspen stands until you arrive at the Gallatin National Forest at the back door. Big Creek, which is 4.5 miles long and has trout in it, runs through the entire property. You can enjoy a fantastic gourmet dinner in the dining room during your stay or take a dinner ride with barbeque cooked over the grill at the lower ranch pavilion. On the hors d’oeuvres hayride or around the campfire, you might sing your favorite western tunes. Finish off your evening with a nightcap in the inviting bar or relax in the hot tub after midnight.
Although several of the guest cottages are original to the ranch and date to the 1920s, each has undergone meticulous restoration and renovation to offer opulent comfort in a rustic setting. There are a variety of one, two, and three-bedroom units available in each individual cabin structure, each of which is distinctive. A flowing stream outside the window, picture windows with spectacular views, or cottages with stone fireplaces are all options.
Big Horn is a contemporary three-bedroom cabin with two bathrooms, a queen-sized bed in the third bedroom, two twin beds in the second bedroom, and a king-sized bed in the first bedroom. There is a pull-out couch bed and a stone fireplace in the separate living area. Dinners are gourmet three- to five-course plated affairs, while breakfast and lunch buffets are lavish spreads offering a variety of selections for every taste. The evening dinners include beef tenderloin, Chilean sea bass, and truffled Portabella pasta, and any special dietary requirements can be met.
A brisk morning trek, a yoga class, or watching the wranglers lead the horses down the mountainside are all enjoyable activities. After a hearty breakfast spread, take a horseback ride through miles of meadows blooming with flowers or take a stroll along Big Creek. The Yellowstone River can be rafted down in the afternoon, or you can try your hand at fly fishing in a mountain stream. The Mountain Sky Wellness Center offers planned massages and yoga sessions in addition to a heated outdoor pool, cedar sauna, steam room, outdoor hot tub, and grotto. Yoga can be used to jump-start your day, you can treat yourself to a therapeutic massage after a quick hike, or you can simply let the warm water of the grotto wash away the stresses of the day.
