Christophe Galtier SLAMS Nice fans and confronts one of his former players after ultras unfurled a banner insulting his 83-year-old mother… with PSG boss insisting HE is the reason fans of his former club ‘can watch European matches’

Christophe Galtier has spoken out against Nice fans after PSG extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 with a 2-0 win against his former club on Saturday.

Les Parisiens recovered from back-to-back losses in the league to triumph at the Parc des Princes thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos.

Grim scenes followed the final whistle however, as Nice ultras targeted Galtier with chants and unfurled a banner referencing his elderly mother.

French broadcaster Canal+ captured Galtier speaking to Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo following the game and challenging his former player about the offensive banner: ‘JC! Did you see the banner? Imagine if they did that to you.’

Galtier then walked over to the away fans, sarcastically applauding in their direction and provoking an even more hostile reception from the travelling supporters.

When asked what provoked his reaction in a press conference following the game, Galtier vented his frustration at the fans taking aim at his family: ‘Why did I react like that? Did you see [the banner]?!’

‘Did you read it?! Did you hear?! My mother is 83 years old, she’s recovering from cancer. Full stop.’

Galtier also expressed his frustration at the fans unappreciative attitudes after he led the club to European football last season. ‘The work I did last season is the reason those people can watch European matches.’

‘Whatever people think, it’s the work we did last season, along with what Didier [Digard] has done, which means there are still European matches in Nice.’

Galtier spent just 12 months at the Allianz Riviera after joining the club in 2021 following a Ligue 1 win with Lillie.

The 56-year-old enjoyed less success in the South of France, but still managed to lead the club to a fifth-placed finish in the league and a French Cup final before leaving to succeed Mauricio Pochettino in Paris.
