Barcelona ‘plan a wage cut on their ENTIRE squad next season’… with the Spanish giants needing a serious cash injection to rival ‘Al-Hilal’s £350m-a-year’ offer for Lionel Messi

Barcelona are considering proposing a salary reduction for their entire squad next season, according to reports.

Xavi‘s side are top of La Liga but could be restricted next season as they are struggling to fit into their salary limits, according to Relevo.

With reconstruction planned for the Camp Nou, Barcelona are set to incur more costs and in total, ‘combined with the wider Espai Barca project’, their loans and finance are expected to reach as much as £1.3billion.

Reports state that the club will attempt to reduce the impact of such losses as they consider asking their first team squad to take wage cuts.

These cuts are expected to be around 15%, with some stars, such as Jordi Alba, being offered new deals on reduced wages.

Barcelona are hoping to save aroud £61million should the wage cuts go ahead, but it remains to be seen as to whether the players would all agree to such demands.

The squad will have to make a decision on the matter together but it is thought that it will be difficult to convince players to take the cuts while the club still intend to make various multi-million signings during the process.

This comes after it was revealed that Barcelona are planning to meet with officials from La Liga to discuss how they could re-sign Lionel Messi under these salary limiting rules.

Messi’s family are believed to want a return to Barcelona to see the Argentina star retire at his former club while reports have stated that PSG want the winger to take a pay-cut to remain in France.

However, Al Hilal are already providing competition to Barcelona if they wish to sign the World Cup winner, having reportedly offered Messi £350 million-a-year to join the Saudi Pro League side, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr’s rivals.

It remains unclear as to whether the Barcelona players will agree to reduce their salaries, especially after impressing in La Liga this season as they currently sit 12 points clear at the top of the table.

The Spanish side could find it tricky to keep some of their stars if they look to enforce wage cuts, with some of Europe’s top clubs no doubt willing to pounce on any uncertainty.
