Being from the WWE background, coupled with numerous workout videos on his Instagram page, anyone would put Dwayne Johnson on the shirtless celebrity list. For two decades, Johnson has played a lot of roles where his physique mattered as much as his presence on the screen like Skyscraper, Rampage, and Baywatch.
But it isn’t only Johnson, there are many actors who are deemed as shirtless and hulking personalities in Hollywood. But this Academy Award-winning actor just took a sly dig at Johnson while talking about the shooting for his new movie.
‘The Little Mermaid’ actor takes a dig at Dwayne Johnson
Sitting down with Entertainment Weekly, Javier Bardem, the Academy Award-winning actor, talked about the filming of Disney’s live-action of The Little Mermaid. He talked about all the ingenious ways that the CGI and VFX artists are taking to bring the character King Triton, the King of the Sea, to life. But there is a stark difference that Bardem is happy about.
While talking about the unrealistic physique standards in the animated movie, the actor said, “You have to be in shape because those arms have to be there. And most importantly, you have to have a strong core. You really have to do some gymnastics.” For the shirtless part, he said, “I’m not Dwayne Johnson. I’m not Brad Pitt.”
Bardem won his Best Supporting Actor award in 2008 for No Country for Old Men. You might recognize him from movies like Skyfall or Dune.
Being in the Hollywood industry in this day and age requires any actor to take care of their physique. Whether male or female, the fans hold actors to a near-impossible standard of looking like a Greek God. After leaving WWE, Johnson has truly transformed when it comes to his physique. This hulking persona has helped Johnson get many roles in action flicks throughout his career.
But even having, what many would call the perfect body, the insecurities about the physique don’t go away. In an interview for the promotion of his 2017 flick, Baywatch, Johnson opened up about his insecurities with body image. While being known for his physique and shirtless scenes, even The Rock had to go through a lot of criticism.
