Many NBA players were reminded that LeBron James is frugal with his money when he recently revealed his plans to refrain from purchasing Twitter blue.
Choosing to invest his earnings in businesses, entertainment, and bodily care, LeBron often denies himself certain luxuries he deems a waste of his money. At one point, music was counted among that group as revealed by Chris Fedor, who revealed that James would blast music with ads because he never brought the premium upgrade.

James is certainly not short on cash, as his worth of roughly $1 billion is widely known across the sports world. Even during his Cleveland days, he still has more than enough money to buy the ad-free version of Pandora (music streaming platform).
Nevertheless, LeBron takes his money very seriously and, unlike many millionaire athletes today, he’s not going to spend without discretion.
How Frugal Is LeBron James?
Obviously, James enjoys many luxuries that we’ve seen before. He has a nice house, many cars, and travels every year on an expensive vacation with his family. That’s not counting the millions he spends to prepare and train his body for a long NBA season.
Still, James doesn’t like to miss an opportunity to increase his assets, and this wild story from former Cavs coach Tyronn Lue proves that he never misses a beat when there’s money on the line.
“We had a couple of mess-ups, and in Game 5, I think, before we got on that plane to go, there, I said, ‘listen, if you don’t believe we can win, stay home.’ I really thought we could win. I didn’t think it was over and then Draymond got suspended for Game 5,” said Tyronn Lue recalling a moment with James in the 2016 Finals. “We came out, and Kyrie and Bron both had 40. So after Game 5, actually, I had everybody in the locker room give me $200. So all the players, Mr. Gilbert, Griff, give me $200. They said, ‘what are you doing with this money and I actually got the video on my phone and I put it in the ceiling and said, ”Are we coming back for Game 7 to get our money? We go to Golden State and win Game 7 and win the championship… The first thing ‘Bron asked me ‘hey man, where’s our money?’ and I said, ‘man, I don’t know. It disappeared.’ I kept that money for myself.”
LeBron has more than enough money to buy and do basically whatever the wants, so the fact that he’s so careful and protective of his wallet is a reflection of his overall maturity.
Thankfully, it’s worked out well for him so far considering he’s one of the most successful athletes on the planet.
