One Piece: Characters that need a new power-up

These One Piece characters are in need of new power-ups, preferably sooner rather than later.

The world of One Piece is inhabited by a plethora of powerful characters who possess immensely strong abilities that set them apart from the rest. Most of these characters are endowed with potent devil fruits, which grant them an overwhelming amount of power.

There are some characters who were considered strong at the time of their debut, but sadly, over time, they were outclassed by the rest. In other cases, they were weak from the very beginning, and Oda has not given them any new power-ups in a long time. Avid One Piece fans know that these characters need stronger abilities not just to defeat their opponents but to accomplish their goals.

7Nami

Nami is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, and she is among the weakest members of the crew. While her job normally does not involve fighting, Nami has had to fight strong opponents in many situations. Most of the time, Nami has used her intelligence to outsmart them and secure a victory.

But, there is only so much that she can achieve with her brain. In the Wano Country arc, Nami was outclassed by her opponents, and she couldn’t do much. Her contribution was very low, and given that the opponents in the future arcs will be even stronger, Nami definitely needs a new power-up.

6Smoker

Smoker is a Navy Vice Admiral who made his debut in the Loguetown arc. At the time, he appeared to be a fearsome character, as he managed to take down Luffy with ease. The young pirate was lucky that Dragon was in the area, and he stopped Smoker from capturing his son.

Smoker followed Luffy into the Grand Line, but things began to change. Luffy learned about Haki and developed Gears that enabled him to take down opponents much stronger than Smoker. The last time fans saw Smoker in action was on Punk Hazard, where he was utterly humiliated by Law, Vergo, and Doflamingo. Fans will be hoping that Smoker comes back a much better fighter.

5Usopp

Usopp has always been a coward, but when the situation calls for it, he doesn’t shy away from risking his life. Usopp has been fairly impressive in his fights. His biggest highlight came in the Dressrosa arc when he awakened his Kenbunshoku Haki and used it to knock out Sugar, thus saving Luffy and Law.

Since then, Usopp has unfortunately been pushed to the sidelines. He was humbled in the Wano Country arc, and he was not much of a help. Moving forward, Usopp will meet more powerful enemies, which is why he needs a new power-up.

4Koby

Koby’s rise to the position of Navy captain has been quite impressive. When he joined the organization, he was nothing more than a scaredy-cat. Koby’s physical abilities were below par, and the lack of a devil fruit made things worse. Under Garp’s tutelage, Koby learned a lot and became much stronger.

During the Marineford arc, he awakened his Kenbunshoku Haki, which allowed him to sense all the people fighting on the island. Koby is also able to use all the Rokushiki techniques, but he is still far away from being on the same level as his main rival, Luffy. In fact, in all their fights, Luffy has overwhelmed the Navy soldier effortlessly.

3Chopper

Chopper is often confused by people as the pet of the Straw Hats when, in fact, he is their doctor. He is an adorable reindeer, who ate the Hito Hito no Mi. Chopper gained the ability to talk and walk upright like a human. It also increased Chopper’s intelligence, allowing him to study medicine.

Chopper’s medical expertise played a crucial role in the victory of the alliance over Kaido. When it comes to combative abilities, Chopper is nowhere near the top. The rumble balls have helped him in certain situations, but the side effects often leave him in a precarious position. Oda should definitely focus on giving Chopper new abilities in the upcoming arcs.

2Tashigi

Tashigi is Smoker’s underling, and the two have been through a lot together. She is a Navy captain who dreams of retrieving all the known grade swords from criminals. It has been confirmed that she can use both Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki but has yet to master either of them.

Tashigi has lofty ambitions, but she has done little to prove that she is capable of achieving her goal. On Punk Hazard, Tashigi had to be saved multiple times by other people, which was quite shameful. All in all, it is obvious that Tashigi is in dire need of a power-up, and it needs to come quickly.

1Zoro & Sanji

There is no doubt that both Zoro and Sanji are extremely powerful, but they are still below the likes of many well-known pirates. Zoro faced King on Onigashima and emerged victorious, but it was clear that Zoro barely managed to scrape past him. He required the power of Enma and the miracle drug to achieve victory.

Sanji lost his raid suit, but he managed to awaken his latent powers. He defeated Queen rather easily, and one might think that he doesn’t require new power-ups. However, Sanji still needs to improve his command over Busoshoku Haki. One thing is certain: their next opponents will be stronger, so both of them will have to step up their game.
