One Piece finally reveals the traitor’s identity, and she wants to spare the Stella and the captive Cipher Pol agents. Here’s why.
The Straw Hat Pirates are once again facing mortal peril, as there seems to be a traitor within their group. This traitor has been making One Piece fans confused and curious in the past few updates. Fortunately, Chapter 1078 finally reveals the traitor among Vegapunk’s Satellites, and she has no plans on stopping. She apparently plans to eliminate everybody except the Stella, herself and Egghead’s prisoners, and there’s a logical reason why.
After defeating Big Mom and Kaido at Wano, the Straw Hat Pirates continue their adventures and have arrived at Egghead. That’s where they met Dr. Vegapunk. However, their time at Egghead has been far from peaceful. Not only are they initially attacked by Vegapunk’s creation, but they also once again face their old nemeses: the Cipher Pol. Now, they learn that there is even a traitor within their supposed new allies.
York Wants to Spare the Stella and the Captured Cipher Pol Agents
York finally reveals herself as the traitor in Chapter 1078 of One Piece, and she does so with a bang — literally. She shoots Shaka straight in the head, incapacitating the good Satellite. She tells the Stella that she plans to become a Celestial Dragon. While this revelation shocks the Stella, he can’t do anything about it. He must simply sit and listen to York as she tells him how the world doesn’t need multiple Vegapunks, especially since the World Government has also set its sights on her.
To achieve her goals, York has taken command of the four Seraphim. She tells them to eliminate everyone obstructing her path, including the other Satellites. She is well aware that her strength is not enough to defeat the others, so she asks S-Snake to use her ability on her. However, while she asks the Seraphim to go on a rampage, she also instructs them to spare certain individuals; she tells the powerful cyborgs not to kill the Stella, herself or the captives held underground.
Why Did York Spare the Stella and the Cipher Pol Captives?
York may be known as a glutton and lazy, but she also has Vegapunk’s intellect. Her actions are rooted in what she wants to achieve: become a Celestial Dragon. Whether that’s an achievable dream is another topic altogether. Nonetheless, she doesn’t want to spare the Stella and the Cipher Pol agents due to sentimental reasons. She likely only spared them for later use as bargaining chips. After all, she must first clear her name from the World Government’s wanted list if she wants to survive.
Given that Vegapunk may have just become the most wanted man in the world, he also becomes a very valuable hostage. York can use the Stella and the Cipher Pol agents as a means to get on the World Government’s good side. After all, this isn’t the first time someone has done that in One Piece. For example, Blackbeard gave Ace to the World Government to become a Warlord. Similarly, Law has offered the Marines a box filled with pirates’ hearts to earn the same title.
