Despite reports that David de Gea has rejected Manchester United’s offer of a new contract before his current one expires at the end of the season, a contract extension with the Spanish goalkeeper is anticipated to be reached.
United agreed to pay De Gea £375,000 per week when he renewed his contract in September 2019, making him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world.
The 32-year-old transferred from Atletico Madrid to Old Trafford in 2011 and has since played in more than 500 games for United.
De Gea has been outstanding for the rest of the season after a shaky start, passing Peter Schmeichel as the club’s all-time leader in clean sheets (181).
The Athletic reports that while United would like to extend De Gea’s contract, the club is more concerned with lowering the goalkeeper’s astronomical pay.
The arrival of Alexis Sanchez on a deal worth more than £400,000 per week and his standing as United’s only No. 1 gave De Gea leverage in talks with then chief executive Ed Woodward, according to the article.
Ten Hag has come to respect De Gea’s role this season after initial doubts about whether the 32-year-old could be his long-term No 1. De Gea has made a series of fantastic saves in crucial moments of matches.
The February Premier League Save of the Month went to the Spaniard as he blocked a header from Kelechi Iheanacho in United’s 3-0 win against Leicester.
That’s why Ten Hag hopes the goalie stays put at Old Trafford.
According to the source, despite receiving a competitive offer, De Gea insists on being compensated fairly because his recent play has made him one of the most valuable members of the Red Devils’ roster.
Ten Hag is known as a realistic coach who has come to recognize the keeper’s worth despite the fact that De Gea has struggled to persuade at times when playing out from the back.
After a particularly inconsistent showing of distribution in their 4-1 win over Real Betis earlier this month, he offered his support to De Gea and the team’s coaching staff reworked their instructions appropriately.
When asked about his kicking, Ten Hag stated, “I can’t ignore it, but we’ve witnessed a lot of games where he played incredibly well.”
David is now focusing on it. He has made progress, and I have no doubt that he will continue to do so.
United are looking to improve their ability to sell players at the correct time, thus the report suggests that goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest, may be transferred this summer.
After an amazing run of form for Steve Cooper’s side, two teams have reportedly shown interest in a permanent move for Henderson, who still has two years left on his contract.
Back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Jack Butland has yet to make an appearance since joining on loan from Crystal Palace in January. This comes after the failed loan move of Martin Dubravka, who was signed to challenge De Gea before returning to Newcastle in January.
On Sunday, United will play again, this time against Newcastle in a pivotal match in the race for the playoffs.
Ten Hag told to consider Mount transfer as Lindelof reveals hidden injury
Louis Saha has commented on the гᴜmогs that Manchester United are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
This weekend marks Manchester United’s return to action following the international break, as they travel to top-four opponents Newcastle.
The last time we saw the Red Devils play was in the FA Cup, where they defeated Fulham. It’s been over three weeks since they last played in the Premier League, and a loss at St. James’ Park would be devastating to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Some of United’s top players have been away on international service, and гᴜmогs of transfer activity continue to surround the Red Devils. Recent weeks have seen гᴜmогs swirl that Mason Mount may transfer to Old Trafford from Liverpool.
Current events at Old Trafford are detailed here.
Saha on Mount
Although Louis Saha does not think Mason Mount is ready to step into Manchester United’s starting XI, he does think Mount would be a роꜱιtιᴠе addition to the club.
Mount’s future at Chelsea is uncertain, thus he has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. United, Liverpool, and Newcastle are reportedly among the clubs interested in extending his contract, which has a little over a year left.
Saha was asked by Betfred if Mount was good enough to guarantee a starting eleven spot for United and said, “He’s obviously good enough to play for Manchester United, there’s no debate about that.” Not in my opinion, no.
I don’t think Mason has had the kind of season he was hoping for at Chelsea over the previous six months or so, and he doesn’t produce nearly enough goals or assists for a player of his caliber.
The man is a jack-of-all-trades; he’s physically active, mentally astute, and has plenty of space for development. Even though they play the same position, Bruno Fernandes has a higher goal and assist total than Mason.
There’s no assurance Mason would be able to step into Manchester United’s starting lineup at No. 10. He has the potential to succeed in that field, but only with extensive effort on his part.
Lindelof on hidden injury
Sweden’s Victor Lindelof broke his toe during the team’s September 2017 match against Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League, and since then, he has been using a larger shoe size to compensate for the injury.
During their 1-1 tie at the Friends Arena, the Manchester United defender was hurt. Despite the injury, Lindelof was still able to play the next game.
Half an hour into United’s 6-3 loss to Manchester City a week later, he also saw action against Omonia Nicosia and Everton.
According to Aftonbladet’s report, he remarked, “I shattered my toe in September, and I felt it tightening out there.” In September, we did it with the national team. The moment I received my stamp, I promptly shattered it. I needed pain medication because it hurt for a while. I was able to play, but I needed a bigger shoe size.
Man Utd duo could swap nations
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Axel Tuanzebe, both of Manchester United, have held productive negotiations with DR Congo and may switch their international allegiance from England.
Both players have experience at the Under 21 level, but neither has been called up to the senior national team. Tuanzebe was born in Bunia, while Wan-ancestors Bissaka’s came from the Congo.
There have been ongoing negotiations for Tuanzebe to switch countries, and Leopard Football Leader reports that Congo head coach Sebastien Desabre spoke at length with Wan-Bissaka.
If Congo qualifies for the Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast, Wan-Bissaka has not ruled out the idea of accepting the offer from Desabre. Tuanzebe, on the other hand, wants to change his citizenship.
