There’s no denying that motherhood is the most mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting thing in the world, and one mother shows just how much so in a candid photograph that has gone viral.

Mum-of-2 Rachel Giampietro from Australia took to Facebook to share an incredibly honest and relatable post, along with a picture of her with her two kids. Taken just after the birth of her second child, it shows her crying in exhaustion as both her kids take a nap. It was her first day home alone with the children, and she was overwhelmed at the difficult reality of having to tend to a newborn and her toddler son.

Rachel, who is a personal trainer, was faced with a triple whammy – her husband returning to work just that very day, a tantrum by her toddler, and breastfeeding her new daughter. Thepeaceful moment where the kids finally went to sleep had her crying in relief and exhaustion and proved quite realistically that “motherhood isn’t rainbows and smiles all the time.”

The post has been widely shared online, with many thanking her in the comments for posting about the reality that is motherhood and others for the encouragement that it was not just them going through these difficult emotions.

Rachel spoke to Momspresso and was happy to share her story with us. She told us that she is touched by the positivity and encouraging notes she has received from people all over the world, and it was heartening to know that a lot of people feel the same way as she does.
