Football can be an exciting game off the field too. Not one but two Saudi clubs are courting legend Lionel Messi following his world cup win. The clubs Al-Hilal (Riyadh) and Al Itihad (Jedah) are leaving no stone unturned to grab the attention of the football star by offering 350m euros ($370 million) to the Argentine for a season. Not only is the sum nearly double what old rival Ronaldo earns ($187m) it can also possibly revive one of football’s great rivalries.
Via Instagram / @cristianoCristiano Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr, and Al-Hilal is considered a rival. If Saudi lures Lionel Messi, fans will give an arm and a leg to watch the two greats, Messi and Ronaldo, on opposite sides. Messi’s contract with PSG ends this summer. While the French are determined to keep hold of the football legend, a juicy $370 million contract with a side of Ronaldo is tough to ignore.AD
Via Instagram / @leomessiThe twist in the tale is both interested clubs are currently sanctioned by FIFA due to ‘irregularities’ and would not be able to sign Messi until the summer. That would give enough time for PSG to score with Messi.
