Manchester United is the only option for Harry Kane this summer, Gary Neville has insisted.
Tottenham’s defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Wednesday night means it is highly likely they will finish the season without a trophy yet again – unless they manage to win the Champions League.
Kane could end up trophy-less again this season
Kane, who started on the bench against the Blades, has frequently insisted he is desperate to win silverware having never lifted a trophy in his career.
And as he prepares to turn 30 in the summer, the attention will once again turn to his plans in the transfer window with his contract at Spurs entering the final 12 months.
It has led to speculation that Tottenham might finally let Kane leave with several clubs said to be having a long-standing interest in him.
One of those clubs includes United, who Neville believes are on the lookout for a striker, adding that they’re his only option in the summer.
Neville told Sky Sports: “Harry Kane is going to want to win trophies, whether he sees it as a case of committing to Tottenham for his last five years and so what some players did like Matt Le Tissier at Southampton where they commit to a club because they love the club.
“If Harry is going to leave, I think now is the time, now is the moment. He’s a wonderful player, a great professional.
Kane has yet to sign a new contract at Tottenham, meaning he stands to leave on a free at the end of next season
Neville has urged Kane to join United
“I think if Harry Kane could leave now and you could get him an exit out of there to a club, in Manchester probably.
“United or City, I think he would take that opportunity. More than likely not going to be City because of their Haaland expenditure and what they’ve done with him.
“Manchester United are desperate for a centre-forward, Tottenham fans will be furious with me, they’ll say it’s me coming on television to try and get their player to Manchester United.
“It is not. It just looks to me like, in this moment in time, the most likely move.
“Chelsea, I can’t see him going to Chelsea. I think the way in which he is quite loyal to Tottenham and there’s a big rivalry between Tottenham and Chelsea.
Kane’s only option is United, says Neville
“I just don’t see that happening, they do need a centre-forward, I just don’t see that happening.
“He is not going to go to Arsenal, again, because of the rivalry so Manchester United are the only option for Harry Kane this summer.
“Bayern Munich have been mentioned, that could happen and I think [Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy would be happier if he was sold internationally.
“But I think if Harry wants to win trophies then I think he is going to have to leave Tottenham because they do struggle with that aspect.”
Despite their loss in the FA Cup, Tottenham remain very much in the hunt for a top four spot in the Champions League and are currently four points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle.
Conte’s future at Tottenham is also uncertain
However, United look like they are on the up under Erik ten Hag and have already won the Carabao Cup and would be eight points behind league leaders Arsenal if they win their game in hand.
Antonio Conte’s future at Spurs remains uncertain with his contract expiring at the end of the season, which could have an impact on Kane’s decision-making while Ten Hag looks like he is in for the long haul at Old Trafford.
With Wout Weghorst’s loan set to expire in the summer there are a list of strikers being looked at by the Red Devils including Kane, Napoli hotshot Victor Osimhen and Benfica man Goncalo Ramos.
