Marcus Rashford could change Erik ten Hag’s summer transfer plans at Manchester United

The Man United forward has been in scintillating form so far this season and could provide the solution to one of Ten Hag’s problems.

Rashford is Manchester United's top scorer so far this season

Marcus Rashford has been a tough player to stop since he arrived back from the World Cup.

The 25-year-old is oozing confidence whenever he steps onto the pitch for Manchester United. With Cristiano Ronaldo unceremoniously leaving Old Trafford ahead of the January transfer window, United were left looking light in the striker department.

Even though Rashford has been performing at an elite level, United were looking for options in the transfer window and ended up bringing in Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley. The Dutchman has struggled for goals early on in his United career but he has impressed Erik ten Hag with his passion and grit.

Weghorst has expressed an interest in staying at the club beyond his loan spell, but it is no secret that the Reds are exploring other striker options. The Manchester Evening News understands Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen are on the club’s radar.

However, both players are going to cost United a lot of money. The Reds did not have a blockbuster winter window like Chelsea as they only managed to fill gaps left by the injury to Christian Eriksen and the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Martin Dubravka.

Despite that, the club has managed to continue their impressive run and could even challenge Manchester City and Arsenal in the Premier League title race. However, United will have to offer some sense of encouragement to Ten Hag ahead of the summer. He has done a sensational job in his first year in England and deserves to be backed by the board.

Aside from signing a striker, United also have plans to bolster other areas of the squad. But the hefty price of players in the market may result in them failing to sign all their targets in one window.

With reports emerging that Tottenham are not looking to sell Kane to a direct Premier League rival, a deal could be difficult to make. But with Rashford performing the way he has in the past couple of months, would it be naïve to think that he has it in him to fill the boots of an elite striker?

Rashford came through the United academy and has constantly elevated his game. Having bagged over 200 appearances for the club, the England international has played as a striker before. He has been impressive in the position – if not as impressive as he’s looked on the left – and forced many to believe that he could be United’s next No.9.

One thing that was perhaps missing from Rashford’s game was consistency, but having showcased his skills on the biggest stage at the World Cup he’s now continued that form back at United.

If the club are not able to sign a big name in the summer, Rashford’s brilliance is something that United can certainly count on. With a record better than a goal every other game this campaign, Ten Hag could soon begin to believe that missing out on a marquee striker signing this summer might not be such a bad thing after all.
