If the Jazz buy out Westbrook’s contract as expected, the Bulls are reportedly among the suitors for the veteran point guard’s services.
The Chicago Bulls are interested in signing Russell Westbrook, according to Chris Haynes of TNT. Westbrook was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Utah Jazz as part of a three-team deal on Wednesday. In the aftermath, reports indicate the Jazz will buy out his contract.
To be honest, I’m not sure how acquiring Westbrook would help the Bulls. Aside from his floor vision and rebounding, the 34-year-old isn’t the player he once was. The Bulls need shooting, plain and simple. Westbrook doesn’t bring that in any form, at least not this season. The veteran guard is shooting 41% from the field and 29% from downtown.
Or I could be completely off base. Maybe a change of scenery can revive Westbrook’s game. Perhaps getting a starting job in Chicago would motivate him. Could reuniting with Billy Donovan help Westbrook’s confidence?
I mean, at this point, what do the Chicago Bulls have to lose? Russell Westbrook isn’t the sexiest option, but the Bulls are in point guard limbo with Lonzo Ball sidelined and no return in sight.
