Mesut Ozil’s agent has admitted that the midfielder’s end to his Arsenal career was ‘difficult’.
After falling out of favour with Mikel Arteta, Ozil was left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads for the first half of the 2020-21 season.
Ozil took to Instagram to express his disappointment with the decision and ended up signing for Fenerbahce in January 2021 after his Arsenal contact was terminated.

According to reports, Ozil agreed that he wouldn’t receive all of the £7million that was owed to him by Arsenal for the remainder of his contract.
Erkut Sogut admits that it was difficult for Ozil to go from being one of Arsenal’s star players to then not featuring at all.
Ozil’s agent added that it was important to remain professional in difficult circumstances.

Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut says it was important to remain professional in a challenging situation
As reported by The Mirror, Sogut said: ‘It is always difficult when the player is not playing, especially a player on the scale of Mesut Ozil – he was the hero a couple of years ago, and then a few years later you’re not even in the squad so it is not easy for a player to be in that situation and it is not easy for me as an agent.
‘You want the player to be happy and you want the club to be happy, it makes things more difficult but you also have to be professional, it is what it is. The most important thing is to respect each other, to look each other in the eyes despite the difference of opinion.’
Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 for a fee of £42.5million, making him the Gunners’ most expensive signing at the time.
During his time at Arsenal Ozil won three FA Cups, while he made 254 appearances for the club.
The former Germany international currently plays for Istanbul Basaksehir.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are currently thriving under Arteta’s guidance and are five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand on their closest challengers Manchester City.
Similarly to Ozil, Arteta also made the decision to allow striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave last year, with that choice having also been vindicated.
