“Absolutely callous disregard for her coworkers”: Ortega’s Slip-Up Derails The Whole Viral Dance Scene Frenzy

Sorry if we are about to ruin the Wednesday dance for you.

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has revealed a detail about the iconic dance scene from the Netflix hit that makes fans having second thoughts on whether they are actually enjoying the scene that much.

It turns out that the actress… had COVID when she was filming the sequence.

“I’m not a dancer and I’m sure that’s obvious. I got the song about a week before and I just pulled from whatever I could… it’s crazy because it was my first day with COVID so it was awful to film,” Ortega told NME. “They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result.”

The actress also revealed that she had to work despite having body aches, but it’s not like fans understand the flex.

“Jenna Ortega filming that dance scene while she had Covid is not impressive, it’s horrible. Absolutely callous disregard for her coworkers,” Twitter user teresawprice said, adding they want to see “that interview cited in a lawsuit.”

However, not everyone is ready to point fingers at Ortega exclusively.

“I don’t understand what is even the point about getting mad over something that happened 2 years ago. Also, production chose to take the risk, so blame isn’t solely on her,” Twitter user defnoodles pointed out.

According to some people, Ortega “being made to work” while having COVID is not just one person’s “irresponsible choice” but rather “a labor issue.”

“Here’s what it’s like to be Jenna Ortega before her + covid test: If you go to work, you’re irresponsible. If you don’t go to work, you’re losing the production money. So you rely on the policies production has regarding illness. And then the show runners let you take the blame,” Twitter user redlianak said.

NME reported that MGM confirmed in a statement that “strict COVID protocols were followed and once the positive test was confirmed production removed Jenna from set.”

Still, many fans said they “lost all respect” for her and the show. However, the controversy has not really affected the popularity of the Bloody Mary TikTok challenge or the show itself. Wednesday has become Netflix’s second most-streamed series, only trailing behind Stranger Things season 4. Recently, it has been renewed for a second season.
