Arsenal transfer news: All the latest rumours involving potential moves for the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Matteo Guendouzi
Mikel Arteta sends Arsenal board transfer plea amid Mykhaylo Mudryk talks.
The January transfer window has now been open for a week-and-a-half and Arsenal are still yet to sign anyone.
Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit top of the Premier League table, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City – who have won four of the last five titles. However, Arteta himself has made it no secret of his desire to add to his squad in the winter window, consistently admitting that the Gunners are light in attack following Gabriel Jesus’ knee injury.
With that being said, football.london has rounded up some of the biggest transfer news involving Arsenal from the last 24 hours.
Mudryk latest
Arsenal continued to be linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, with football.london reporting last month that the Ukranian outfit had rejected the Gunners’ opening offer for the talented 22-year-old. Now, FootMercato have claimed that the north Londoners have taken a huge step towards securing a ‘full agreement’ for Mudryk.
The Kroenke family are said to have given the green light for technical director Edu Gaspar to meet Shakhtar’s transfer demands. The two clubs are still discussing bonuses, but are edging closer to an agreement on a transfer fee which could be around €100million (£88million).
Arteta’s transfer plea
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta may have hinted to the club’s board that he is keen to sign a new striker following Monday’s 3-0 win over Oxford United in the FA Cup. In his post-match press conference, Arteta admitted that his options in attack are limited when asked about starting Eddie Nketiah, who is currently the only fit-out and out centre-forward at the club.
“The problem is that we have only one striker and to cope for that many months until Gabby (Jesus) is back is not easy”, the Spaniard said after the full-time whistle. “But we have to get the most out of the players that we have at the moment. If we can have some reinforcements, great.”
Guendouzi windfall
According to French outlet L’Equipe, an unnamed Premier League club has made an offer for former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. The Gunners sold Guendouzi to Ligue 1 giants Marseille last summer, with The Athletic reporting that a sell-on clause had been inserted into the Frenchman’s contract, meaning that Arteta’s side will pocket a percentage of the transfer fee if he does leave the Orange Velodrome.
One Premier League manager who has previous links to Guendouzi is current Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery, who brought the 23-year-old to Arsenal back in the summer of 2018.
