TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has now said that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been the best player at the club over the past 12 months.
Speaking on TalkSPORT this morning, he was very complimentary about the Brazilian shot stopper.
This was in stark contrast to his performance against Wolves yesterday, which left much to be desired.
He was at fault for the visitors first goal, passing the ball directly to Goncalo Guedes who slotted into the empty net.
Alisson would have hoped to have done better for Wolves second goal as well.
The ball squirmed under his body after Hwang Hee-chan and Ibrahima Konate clashed in the box.
Alisson’s distribution was questioned when he first arrived at Anfield from Roma back in 2018.
He gave the ball away on several occasions that lead to goals, however, this is definitely an aspect of his game that he’s improved on.
However, Alisson offers so much to Liverpool between the sticks, particularly in one-v-one situations.
Alisson Liverpool’s best player over last year – Cascarino
Speaking about the 30-year-old following their 2-2 draw yesterday, Cascarino said: “He has been, clearly, Liverpool’s best player by far for me, over the last year or so.
“He’s been impeccable at making saves.”
Alisson has drawn praise throughout the season despite his team’s mixed form.
Jurgen Klopp singled him out after their 3-3 draw with Brighton, which would have been a lot worse were it not for Alisson.
Even during the fiercest of derbies, the opposition couldn’t help but call out the Brazilian for his performances.
Klopp will know that his performance yesterday was very much an exception to his normal output.
Alisson has single-handedly earned Liverpool plenty of points over the past few seasons.
There aren’t many Liverpool fans who would disagree with the idea that Alisson has been the best player at the club in the past year.
His 2023 hasn’t got off to the best start, but there’s plenty of time to improve that.
A visit to the Amex next weekend will be his next opportunity to earn another clean sheet.
