Patrice Evra has circled Casemiro as Manchester United’s most important player on current form.
The summer signing has been a key part of the team’s good run of form, being effective both going forwards and backwards. The Brazilian netted his first Old Trafford goal when opening the scoring in Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth and grabbed an assist in the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest after making one of his customary interceptions.
Casemiro has been the linchpin in a new-formed midfield trio under Erik ten Hag with fellow summer arrival Christian Eriksen and Burno Fernandes both also impressing. Evra has detailed his admiration for the 30-year-old, who he hailed as the “most consistent” United star.
Speaking to Betfair, he said: “Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford have been consistent, but I can’t mention them before mentioning Casemiro. The most important player for Manchester United right now is Casemiro.
“If you took him out of those three games we’ve just won, we wouldn’t have won them. What he is doing is just fantastic.
“I remember watching him in the game against [Nottingham Forest] and he came and tackled as a left back, after he gave an assist to Fred and he scored again. The most consistent player for United right now is Casemiro, if he gets injured United are in trouble.”
Casemiro has lost just two of the 17 matches he has started for United since his arrival. In that time he has bagged two goals and three assists, although it is his defensive efforts that have got the fans excited.
In 14 Premier League appearances, the five-time Champions League winner has made 81 lost ball recoveries, won 89 duels and made 17 interceptions. He’s also tallied 25 clearances and is yet to make an error that has led to a goal.
