Gary Neville feels Manchester United star Antony has a long way to go justify price tag.

Manchester United icon Gary Neville feels Antony has much to do to justify the £86 million the club spent to sign him from Ajax in the summer of 2022.

The Red Devils spent a considerable amount in the previous transfer window. However, the Brazilian ended up being one of our most expensive buys in history. However, the winger has had a mixed spell in Manchester so far.

On his official Twitter account (h/t Mirror), Neville, who spent his entire playing career at the Old Trafford side, admitted that Antony has a long way to go before United could be satisfied with the amount they shelled out for the 22-year-old.

“Agree with Antony (he’s a lot to do to get to 95m price tag).”

Erik ten Hag had signed the Brazilian during his time in the Amsterdam-based club’s dugout from Sao Paulo. Under the Dutch manager, the winger developed into a fine player at the Eredivisie outfit.

At the end of last season, Ten Hag was appointed manager of the Red Devils. Subsequently, in his first transfer window, the gaffer reunited with Lisandro Martinez and Antony in Manchester.

The Argentine centre-back has become a crowd favourite instantly because of his commanding displays at the back. Fans have embraced the 24-year-old’s aggressiveness and tenacity.

As for the Brazilian forward, he started his career in a red shirt in brilliant fashion. The 22-year-old scored consecutively in his first three Premier League appearances. But over the last few fixtures, the winger has been a bit underwhelming.

Antony missed our 3-0 victory over Bournemouth as he was out injured. However, in the starts the youngster was given against Nottingham Forest and Wolves, he failed to make a considerable impact.

United might have seemingly overpaid to acquire the 22-year-old’s services. But his talent and potential cannot be neglected. Hopefully, the Brazilian will go on to become one of the best players in the world at the Old Trafford side.
