Kudu are quite cunning and challenging to approach. When they detect danger, they typically use their enormous, radar-like ears to emit a sharp alarm bark. They then flee in a distinctive rocking-horse pace, with the male rolling back his horns to avoid obstructions above them.
An adult bull kudu’s horns have two and a half twists and, if straightened, would be around 120 cm long. Although they rarely contain three complete twists, the longest known example is 187.64 cm. The bull’s horns don’t start to develop until they are between 6 and 12 months old, twisting once at about 2 years old, and not fully until 6 years old.
