At the end of last season, many Manchester United fans believed that Marcus Rashford’s career at Old Trafford was in the balance.
After coming back from injury last season, he struggled to rediscover the form that made him such a devastating force under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 2020/21 campaign. With Erik ten Hag at the helm in many hoped Rashford could find his feet and at least be a useful player for the Dutchman.
No one could have predicted however that Rashford would not only bounce back under Ten Hag but become an even better player than before.
How he has improved his decision-making on the ball should be commended and this had led to him racking up four assists so far in all competitions, but it has how he has varied his finishing which has truly taken him to the next level.
Against Wolves, he scored the winner receiving the ball between the lines before powering past the first defender, weaving around the second, and then slotting it home.
This comes after he scored a completely different goal against Nottingham Forest, finding space in the box from a corner before picking his spot to put the ball past the goalkeeper.
He has also shown on a number of occasions he has learnt from Ten Hag and attacking coach Benni McCarthy that he time his runs in behind to create chances.
During the World Cup we saw him score a fantastic goal from the right-hand side and with United, we have seen him score goals from the left. He has also added heading to his game, scoring a fantastically powerful one against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.
The variation of weapons Rashford now has made him a menace for opponents and if he continues his goalscoring rate he should make easy work of Ten Hag’s challenge to reach 20 goals. It’s great to have him fit and firing again and hopefully it will help carry United to a top-four finish and silverware at the end of the campaign.
