Why Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Real Madrid didn’t happen

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is sorted, as he has agreed a deal to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, which will make him one of the highest paid sportsmen in the world. Of course, while it might be a financial success for the Portuguese icon, many fans view it as a disappointing final step in the career of the Real Madrid legend in sporting terms.

Ronaldo’s second stint at Manchester United came to an unexpected end in the middle of the season, after the release of his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

Most would have hoped that he would remain in Europe, but unfortunately, there did not seem to be a lot of interest in the signature of a soon to be 38-year-old Ronaldo, who has looked completely out of form for both club and country.

In fact, when Ronaldo came to Valdebebas in order to maintain his fitness, it sparked fresh rumours of a return to Real Madrid. And it appears that there was interest on his part as well. But a move did not materialise.

Why Ronaldo’s return to Real Madrid didn’t happen

As reported by MARCA, during those days in which Ronaldo stepped on Valdebebas again, he waited for a call that did not come, the one from Real Madrid.

Thus, it looks like Real Madrid did not have much interest in bringing Ronaldo back at this stage of his career despite the fact that they could do with more options up front right now and most fans seemed open to the idea of ‘one last dance’.

Ultimately, Ronaldo ended up choosing the move to Al-Nassr, which pretty much brings an end to his career in European football. He did have one of the greatest runs of all-time though and is arguably the best player in Real Madrid history. Thus, all we can do is wish him the best of luck in his new adventure.
