The Siberian flying squirrel is definitely in the running to win a trophy for the cutest animal in the world.
Squirrels are considered as furry lovely little critters that have the power to make one go “aaaaaaaw”. But these squirrels take the cuteness factor to a whole new level. Flying squirrels can be spotted from the Pacific coast to the Baltic Sea in Japan and Europe. These creatures are classified as Old World flying squirrels. Even though flying squirrels do not hibernate, they do sleep for many days at a time throughout the winter.
These squirrels are referred to as “flying squirrels,” but they do not actually fly. Instead, they glide by using their patagium, a hairy membrane found between their front and back legs. Flying squirrels utilize their membrane to glide from tree to tree or to flee predators. These insects can apparently glide a few meters, although it depends on the weather and other factors. Their coat is grey in hue, with the abdomen being slightly lighter than the back.
The flying squirrel has huge and brilliantly black eyes, as well as a flattened tail. They are nocturnal arboreal rodents that build their nests in twig dreys, tree cavities, and nest boxes. Sciuridae is the family of flying squirrels. You’ll fall head over heels in love with these cute squirrels after just one look.
