It seems like another controversy is boiling up in the world of golf, and this time, it’s all about swagger. The latest debate revolves around Tiger Woods’s confidence and charisma on the course, with some arguing that he’s lost his edge. The conversation started when Golf analyst Dan Rapaport took to X to share his thoughts on what Tiger lacks, and his comments sparked a heated discussion among golf fans and experts. So, what did Rapaport say that got everyone talking?
Dan Rapaport’s statement that “there just hasn’t been a player with anywhere near the swagger” of a certain golf legend was met with a passionate response from Greg Allen, who chimed in by saying “Seve may not have been as good as Tiger but in the ‘swagger department’ in the modern game, Seve was in a different league IMO.” Allen’s comment echoed the sentiments of many golf fans who believe that Ballesteros, along with Arnold Palmer, possessed a unique charm and charisma that Tiger Woods has never quite matched.
It’s hard to argue with Allen’s assessment of Ballesteros’s enduring legacy. The Spanish golf legend was a true rockstar on and off the course, and his charisma remains unmatched in the golf world. We can only imagine how tough it must have been for Ballesteros to attempt a comeback at 50, only to realize it was time to retire. Yet, he bowed out with characteristic grace and humility. It’s clear that Ballesteros had a presence that was simply electric and Montgomerie’s story about feeling the atmosphere change when Ballesteros walked into a room is a perfect illustration of that.
…oh dear…short memories and all that. Seve may not has been as good as Tiger but in the ‘swagger department’ in the modern game, Seve was in a different league IMO. Likewise Arnie. Both also had charisma & connected with galleries. Tiger too often just looked down at his shoes. https://t.co/bQw9Xx7H1F

Starting off strong with what this one fan said, “Tiger 🐅 is golf ⛳️ though”, while the other added fuel by writing, “BS…TW with Phil, Daly, and Greggy were a great time in golf… I’m not old enough to know Arnie and Seve in their primes, but they sounded cool too.” Well, we can’t argue with that. With six major championships, 57 professional wins, and a spot in the World Golf Hall of Fame, Phil Mickelson’s impressive career is undeniable. “I sure hope so,” Mickelson said recently when asked if his legacy will be connected to LIV. “Because it wasn’t an option — like elevated events and equity in the tour wasn’t an option for the guys that came to LIV… I think LIV Golf is doing that and I’m hopeful that my connection with LIV and hopeful the success of LIV will be what I’m known for.”
Another fan said, “Cut the romancing the past BS Greg”, while the other said, “And Jack, his work within the game was legendary,” which honestly is a good counterattack to the notion because of Jack Nicklaus’s impressive accomplishments, who coincidentally celebrates his birthday today. Nicknamed the “Golden Bear”, Nicklaus boasts an unparalleled golf career, with 18 Major Championships under his belt, cementing his status as one of the greatest golfers of all time. But Nicklaus’s legacy extends far beyond his golfing prowess, as he has also made a lasting impact as a renowned golf course designer, leaving his mark on the sport in multiple ways. To top it all off, Nicklaus was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
But there was one fan who did agree with Allen and wrote, “Tiger is what he is but never come close to Seve’s entertainment.” Well, maybe Tiger Woods himself agrees with the notion as he has previously spoken fondly of his memories of the late Spaniard. Recalling a practice round they shared at Augusta, where Ballesteros’s artful explanation of how to hit shots around the course left him in awe the GOAT said, “Just to hear him explain how to hit shots around there – it was just artful… He looked like he didn’t try and do anything mechanical – he just understood it.” Woods’s admiration for Ballesteros’s unique style and flair is evident, and he even went so far as to say that competing against him would have been “so much fun”.
