A star-making debut, but with a defeat, for Tiger Woods in ‘his’ technological league, the Tomorrow’s Golf League founded with Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy. Stadium lights, the song ‘Eye of the tiger’ as a soundtrack, the applause of his mother, his children, Serena Williams. And again: the roar of the crowd, arms raised to the sky. At the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the 15-time Major champion was greeted with a standing ovation and his entrance into the new green arena was triumphant. Yet the debut was ruined by the ‘debacle’ of his ‘Jupiter’, defeated 12-1 by the ‘Los Angeles’ led by Collin Morikawa. Morikawa himself, who scored the first point of the match, showed up on the court wearing the “LA strong” t-shirt, showing solidarity with the large city in Southern California devastated by fires. Cheering for the ‘Los Angeles’, of course, Serena Williams. A tennis champion, together with her husband Alexis Ohanian and her sister Venus, she leads the team composed of Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood. In her special role as “commentator”, Williams has however received some attacks online. “Take the microphone away from her, she doesn’t know what she’s saying”, one of the many comments on X.

“We had fun, I hope the fans did too. We didn’t play well, but that’s another story”, Woods’ statements at the end of the match. With Max Homa, Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim, Woods will return to the court on January 27 when he will face Rory McIlroy’s ‘Boston Common’.

Eldrick Tont Woods, better known as Tiger Woods (Cypress, December 30, 1975), is an American golfer.

Considered one of the best golfers of all time,[3] as well as the best of the modern era,[4] in his twenty-year career he has won 110 professional tournaments, including 15 majors, making him the most successful player in history; he has held the first position in the OWG world ranking for a total of 683 weeks, of which 281 consecutive (from June 12, 2005 to October 30, 2010), and is the only golfer to have won all four major tournaments of the modern era in the span of a single year (between 2000 and 2001).

In 2014 he became the first sportsman in the world to have exceeded one billion dollars in earnings between victories and endorsements.[5] He was later surpassed by Michael Jordan and his net worth is estimated to be $1.8 billion as of 2023, making him the second highest-paid athlete of all time.[6] In 2019, U.S. President Donald Trump awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
