In the MCU, Thor has been using Stormbreaker since Infinity War. Below, let’s explore the unique features of the  Stormbreaker ax that has been known in the Marvel movies!

1. Stormbreaker doesn’t have a “worthy charm” like Mjolnir so anyone can use it

As one of Thor’s energies, Mjolnir is an artifact enchanted by Odin in the first Thor movie, which is only given to the “worthy” to lift the hammer. Therefore, only Thor and those who are properly judged by the hammer (such as Steve Rogers) can use it.

For Stormbreaker, it is different, the new weapon of the Thunder God is not enchanted like Mjolnir. Therefore,  when Thanos got his hands on Stormbreaker, he used it to attack Thor.

As Thor mentioned in Infinity War, Nidavellir’s weapon can destroy the user’s weak body and drive their mind crazy. The problem is that Thanos is so strong that he can use this ax with ease.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr can also pick up this ax.

2. Stormbreaker can resist the energy attack from the Infinity Gauntlet that has enough stones

At the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Thor used his ax Stormbreaker after returning from Nidavellir to reverse the course of the battle. With hatred, Thor threw the ax directly into Thanos’ chest, through the energy beam released from the Infinity Gauntlet.

Interestingly, Stormbreaker can completely counter the attack from the Infinity Gauntlet, which shows just how powerful Thor’s new ax is.

3. Stormbreaker is a weapon that can hurt Thanos

The Russo brothers once said that the Stormbreaker ax is the greatest weapon ever created, and is capable of resisting the power of the gauntlet. In Wakanda, we saw how Stormbreaker can seriously injure Thanos. In particular,  Stormbreaker seems to be the only weapon that does that.

4. Eitri calls Stormbreaker the most powerful weapon in Asgard

In Infinity War, Eitri calls Stormbreaker the most powerful weapon in Asgard. This is interesting, because in the past the Nidavellir dwarves have created many other powerful weapons, including the Mjolnir.

5. Can summon Bifrost

Upon completion, Stormbreaker nearly resurrected Thor in the same way as Mjolnir’s hammer and then summoned the Biofrost Bridge to accompany him to Wakanda to aid the Avengers.

Stormbreaker’s Bifrost summoning ability will be used by Gorr to gain Eternity in Love and Thunder.

6. Captain America can summon Stormbreaker

During the final battle in Endgame, there was a moment when Captain America accidentally summoned Stormbreaker instead of Mjolnir. The reason may be that Mjolnir fell into Thor’s hands first. If you look closely at the situation at that time, Mjolnir was summoned into Thor’s hand first, so Captain America was able to summon Stormbreaker later.

But soon, Thor and Captain America exchanged weapons. Thor gives Mjolnir to Cap, and Cap returns Stormbreaker to Thor. Seeing as Stormbreaker was somehow summoned into Cap’s hands, it seemed he was deemed worthy to take hold of Thor’s new weapon.

7. Stormbreaker has emotions

The movie Thor: Love and Thunder showed that Stormbreaker seemed to have emotions. The ax seems to  be jealous of Thor’s concern for Mjolnir.
