Point guard Kyrie Irving is generally considered one of the best players at his position, and many have praised his ballhandling and shot-creation ability in the past. He clearly has the talent of an All-NBA level player.
At the end of this season, Kyrie Irving will be a free agent, and he has previously been linked to the Phoenix Suns. However, a recent report suggested that Kevin Durant doesn’t want Kyrie Irving on the team.
“I saw a sign-and-trade with Kyrie was talked about,” the executive said per Sam LaFrance of Heavy. “Can you imagine going to Kevin Durant and saying, ‘Hey, we got you out of Brooklyn but we’re bringing in Kyrie!’ I think you can say KD is not crazy about the idea of Kyrie on his team again. I can’t see that at all.”
Based on the way things ended during his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets, it is easy to see why Kevin Durant wouldn’t want Kyrie Irving on the team. Still, from a talent standpoint, Irving would be a good addition to the team, which struggled to find scoring in the postseason outside of Durant and Devin Booker.
This season, Kyrie Irving averaged 27.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5.3 APG during his time with the Dallas Mavericks and the Brooklyn Nets. It will be interesting to see where he goes in free agency, and a number of teams could potentially try to acquire him.
Jason Kidd Believes Kyrie Irving Is Happy With The Dallas Mavericks
There’s no doubt that there has been a lot of speculation about Kyrie Irving’s next destination, but there is a chance that he could decide to stay with the Dallas Mavericks. In fact, Jason Kidd previously stated that Kyrie Irving is happy with the Dallas Mavericks.
“I think he truly is happy here. I think he wants to be here,” Kidd told Rachel Nichols. “But that doesn’t guarantee us that he’s going to stay. He has the option and the opportunity as a professional to look elsewhere because he is a free agent, and I don’t want to take that away from him, being a player who was in that situation. We’re going to do everything to keep him. At the end of the day it’s his decision, but we believe we’ll see what that is, but we hope that we’ve done everything to make him comfortable, and want to be a Mavs for life.”
A huge part of Kyrie Irving’s decision will likely be the financial factor. He is eligible to sign a five-year $272 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks, and if the team offers him the full extent of that deal, it is hard to see him turning that down and leaving for yet another franchise.
