Abandoned and alone on the streets of Tijuana, a heavy pregnant dog was wandering with a big belly. Her fate would have been to give birth on the cold, rainy streets if we hadn’t received a call for help. We rushed to the scene and rescued her just one day before she gave birth.
After bringing her to a nearby animal hospital, the veterinarians determined that she required emergency surgery during the birthing process to save her life. Despite the odds, the surgery was successful, and she gave birth to seven sweet puppies. Unfortunately, the eighth puppy was stillborn.
The mother dog and her puppies spent the next few days recovering at the hospital, with the mother dog fighting for her life due to internal bleeding. After undergoing exploratory surgery, she pulled through and was transferred to a foster home with her puppies. However, her condition remained delicate, and she had trouble keeping food down.
Tragically, on day 15, we received the heartbreaking news that the mother dog had passed away at the hospital despite the veterinarian’s best efforts to save her. But her seven puppies remained under our care and were being treated for worms, parasites, and coccidia. With the help of our wonderful foster parents, who cared for them day and night, the puppies were thriving.
As the days passed, the puppies grew stronger, healthier, and more playful. Eventually, one by one, they were adopted into loving families who would give them the life they deserved. Although the mother dog’s story ended in tragedy, her legacy lives on through her seven puppies who will always be a reminder of the importance of rescuing animals in need.
