Jason Momoa is a Hollywood hunk who is most known for his physique. From Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones to Arthur Curry in Aquaman, the actor has made a name for himself playing macho roles. However, not every such role or movie has been successful. In fact, the actor confessed that there was one particular film that he had the worst time making.
Hollywood is littered with stories of production issues and studio interference. In fact, Momoa is one person who should be well aware of studio interferences considering what has happened behind the scenes at the DCEU. But it looks like that wasn’t the star’s first brush with production troubles.

Jason Momoa in Conan the Barbarian
When someone talks about Conan the Barbarian, the image of Arnold Schwarzenegger quickly pops into one’s head. However, once upon a time, there was a possibility of Jason Momoa’s face becoming associated with the character as well. But that didn’t happen. Today, very few even remember that the actor was in a reboot of Conan the Barbarian (2011). However, there’s a reason why most people don’t even know about the newer film.

It’s because the movie grossed only $63.5 million on a $90 million budget. The critic reviews were also brutal and so the reboot sunk without a trace. To make matters worse, there were also plenty of behind-the-scenes issues that caused the film to be an abject failure. In an interview with GQ, Momoa said that those problems caused the film to be subpar. He said:
“I’ve been a part of a lot of things that really sucked, and movies where it’s out of your hands. ‘Conan’ was one of them. It’s one of the best experiences I had and it [was] taken over and turned into a big pile of s*it.”
Momoa had later written a sequel to the film that was more character-based. But due to the first one underperforming, no sequel was ordered. However, the Justice League star isn’t the only one who complained about the movie. The director of the film, Marcus Nispel, hinted at how too many cooks spoiled the Conan the Barbarian reboot.
Marcus Nispel
In an interview with People magazine, Conan the Barbarian’s director, Marcus Nispel explained that it was near impossible for him to deliver a good film under the circumstances he was put in. He said, “As a filmmaker in this system you are a dog on many leashes. Trying to get ‘Conan’ done under those circumstances was the worst experience that I had and I was as unhappy with the result.”

However, Nispel is glad that one flop didn’t stop Jason Momoa’s career from taking off. He exclaimed, “I am happy though that none of this got in the way of Jason’s career path … I always stood by the decision to make ‘Conan’ with him.” Momoa is certainly seemingly unstoppable right now. With Fast X and Aquaman 2 releasing this year, the actor will touch new heights in his career.
