Arsenal are likely to look to sign a new centre-back in the summer as a possible alternative to William Saliba.
The Gunners have reportedly grown concerned over the Frenchman’s injury-prone nature and could look to sign another quality centre-back to add depth to their squad.
Amid all this, one Arsenal fan on Twitter, Al, claims that the Gunners should make a move to sign Man United captain Harry Maguire.
He wrote: “We need a CB who can play both LCB/RCB and has some Dias/VVD traits in terms of leadership, organizational prowess and aerial play. I wonder if we see a surprise bid for Maguire in the summer. Guehi not tall enough.
“Maguire is just another Jorginho type signing. Underrated, undervalued, overcriticized, fans think he is responsible for their issues (even though they still concede 6+ goals without him). Just exactly what Arsenal need.
“There isn’t much of a difference between Harry Maguire and Ruben Dias. I now understand why Pep Guardiola wanted him.
“If I was Edu, I’d be getting in Maguire’s head to sell the idea of the project to him. Chance at redemption, chance to win the title, make his story one for the ages… Just take a wage cut. Try to do a deal and get one of the best CBs in the world for less than 40 million.”
With all due respect to this fan, it’s unlikely that Arsenal will look to sign a defender like Maguire – who is currently restricted to being Man United’s fifth-choice centre-back due to his error-prone, inconsistent performances in recent seasons.
Moreover, Mikel Arteta will probably aim to sign a younger centre-back with the potential to become world-class in the future and keep his squad’s growth going in the right way.
