Chelsea Football Club could potentially reignite their interest in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Neymar this summer, as reported by various sources.
The 31-year-old Brazilian footballer joined PSG in 2017 for a world-record transfer fee of £200m and has been an integral part of the team’s success, winning four Ligue 1 titles. However, PSG’s president,
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is reportedly planning to oversee a change in approach this summer in an attempt to finally win the UEFA Champions League. As a result, a number of first-team players, including Neymar, could potentially leave the club.
Chelsea’s owner, Todd Boehly, is said to have held a meeting in February to inquire about Neymar’s availability, and the Blues could revive their interest in the player.
Another Premier League club is also reportedly interested in Neymar, but his options outside PSG are expected to be limited due to his high salary and injury history.
Despite being a crucial player for PSG, Neymar has suffered from various injuries throughout his time with the French club. An ankle injury in February ended his promising season early,
during which he scored 18 goals and provided 17 assists in 29 games. Injuries to his groin, ankles, abductor muscles, ribs, hamstring, and even COVID-19 have kept him out of play at various times.
If Neymar were to leave PSG, it would undoubtedly be a significant loss for the club, given his contributions to their success and the £2.7bn ($3.2bn) increase in their value since his arrival.
However, PSG’s failure to win the Champions League thus far could prompt the club to take a different approach this summer, potentially leading to Neymar’s departure.
In conclusion, while nothing has been confirmed yet, the reports of Chelsea’s renewed interest in Neymar, as well as the potential for him to leave PSG this summer, will undoubtedly spark interest and speculation among football fans worldwide.
It remains to be seen whether the Brazilian forward will indeed leave PSG, and if so, which club he will end up joining.
