Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan confirms that Arthur Curry will form an uneasy alliance with his brother Orm in the upcoming sequel.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan just confirmed that the upcoming DC Universe blockbuster will team Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) with his villainous brother Orm Marius (Patrick Wilson).
Wan revealed the Aquaman sequel’s Arthur/Orm team-up during Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon 2023 presentation, reports Collider. “Orm was a villain in the first film, but this time around Arthur needs him to stop a vengeful Black Manta from unleashing a powerful ancient evil,” he said. Wan also described Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom as a “romance story at its heart between the two brothers, between Arthur and Orm.” Also known as Ocean Master, Orm is the former ruler of the undersea kingdom of Atlantis, who was deposed and imprisoned by his half-brother, Arthur, in the original Aquaman movie.
Despite the enmity between Arthur and Orm on the big screen, recent remarks by Jason Momoa suggest that the pair’s real-life counterparts enjoy a warm working relationship. Momoa raved about his experience acting opposite Patrick Wilson in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, praising his co-star for delivering several of the eagerly-anticipated film’s biggest laughs. “There’s some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson,” Momoa said. “I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It’s like we’re brothers. There’s a lot of cool stuff happening in this one.”
Will Aquaman 2 Feature Any DCU Cameos?
Aquaman won’t have to rely solely on Orm for support, though. The King of Atlantis will also receive back-up from Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, if comments by Shazam! Fury of the Gods‘ Jack Dylan Grazer are anything to go by. Grazer seemingly spoiled Gadot’s involvement in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom during a recent interview, recalling how the DCU veteran told him that she filmed a cameo for that movie prior to arriving on the Shazam sequel’s set. However, it’s worth noting that Gadot is not officially attached to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom at this stage.
In the event that Wonder Woman does show up for Aquaman’s second solo outing, exactly who she, Arthur and Orm will be fighting remains a mystery. One fan theory currently doing the rounds online posits that the “ancient evil” set free by Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will turn out to be Atlan, better known as “The Dead King.” Proponents of this theory point to the icy motif incorporated into the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom poster that debuted at CinemaCon, which they believe is a reference to the Dead King’s ice and snow-related superpowers.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom glides into cinemas on Dec. 20, 2023.
