Hobbs is connected to Dante, as the DSS agent killed the villain’s father in Fast Five, but Dante doesn’t know and it could lead to the Rock’s return.
Jason Momoa is playing the new villain Dante Reyes in Fast X, and the character’s story could be the key to reintroducing Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs into the franchise. Between his over-the-top gadgets, gem-laced suit jackets, and souped-up motorbikes and muscle cars, Dante Reyes looks like the most theatrical villain the Fast & Furious franchise has seen yet. Momoa’s character is also connected to Fast Five, as his father, Hernan Reyes, was the villain of the fifth movie. Dante is seeking revenge for his father’s death, and he likely wants to retrieve the $100 million that Dom’s crew stole from Hernan too.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is partly responsible for revitalizing the series after it had gotten stale with its street racing formula. Fast Five turned the crime series into a high-octane action heist franchise, which had way more appeal. As Johnson is one of the most bankable stars in the world, his appearance as Luke Hobbs significantly expanded the fanbase too. However, after the spin-off, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Johnson hasn’t returned to the series and has vowed not to after his feud with Vin Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto in the franchise. But Dante and Hobbs have a deep connection, and it could lead to Hobbs’ long-awaited return.
Jason Momoa’s Dante Should Also Be Going After Hobbs In Fast X
Hernan Reyes is the billionaire drug lord and primary antagonist of Fast Five, and Dom, Brian (Paul Walker), and the rest of the crew successfully steal $100 million from him by hauling his safe through Rio with two Dodge Chargers. Hernan gets killed in the process, but not by Dom or any of the family. Instead, it’s Hobbs who shoots Hernan dead, but Dante clearly doesn’t know this, as he’s hunting down Dom and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) in the Fast X trailers. It’s likely that Dante will find out that he’s chasing the wrong people in Fast X, and that it wasn’t Dom who killed his father after all.
Will The Rock’s Hobbs Be In Fast & Furious 11?
Dante could break an annoying Fast & Furious trend, as every major villain played by a movie star seemingly joins Dom’s family and gets redeemed. If Dante learns that Hobbs is really responsible for his father’s murder, his excuse for vengeance can easily be continued in Fast & Furious 11. That way, Hobbs can return in the 11th and final movie too, and it could see Hobbs and Dante going head to head. However, it could also easily go the other way, as Dante could join Dom’s crew after learning about Dom’s innocence in his father’s murder, just like Deckard Shaw, Luke Hobbs, Jakob Toretto, and so many other former villains did.
Michelle Rodriguez has teased a huge cliffhanger ending to Fast X that will set up Fast & Furious 11, which is supposedly the last film in the franchise. That cliffhanger could potentially be the appearance of Luke Hobbs, especially given that the DSS agent is so closely connected to Dante. However, Johnson and Diesel’s feud has been well-documented, and their conflict seemingly kept Johnson from ever wanting to return to the series. But there’s still a chance that the two high-profile actors could have quietly put aside their differences to give fans a shocking twist ending, even if it is slim.
