As a New Yorker, Jennifer Lawrence must be familiar with the struggle of dressing stylishly in the city come summertime. Especially in July and August, Manhattan turns into a sauna—so this calls for outfits that are light on layers. It’s hard to deliver a fashionable look when you want to wear as little clothing as possible! But this season, the A-list actor proved up to the task. She consistently chose pieces that were nonchalant (and lightweight) yet still covetable.
As a new mom, Lawrence’s schedule is likely packed these days, so she’s clearly been thinking about pieces that are put-together, not too fussy, and easy to style. One such garment was the blue, checkered Tory Burch dress with a smocked waist she wore while out and about in the city—which she finished off with Dior’s Lady Dior top-handle bag. The brown Matteau square-neck dress she wore also felt modern and streamlined, complete with Trademark’s faux-croc bag. Her summer dress M.O.? She looked for frocks that had a strong shape to them, allowing them to shine on their own with minimal accessories.
She didn’t live entirely in dresses, however. Lawrence also understood the power of separates this summer. Particularly, dressing up classic T-shirts. On one outing, she paired a wide-leg pair of jeans with a cropped black tee. For another, she styled a white tee with a pair of loose khaki pants, which even had a subtle palm print at the hem. All of Lawrence’s pieces made you lean in a little closer like this to notice the fine details—a true master of stealthy-chic dressing. Her seasonal closet also proved that you don’t need to rock bold pieces to make a statement. Even in the most muted neutral shades, her rotating array of looks were memorable—and totally shined.
