Ultron may have only appeared once, but his presence changed the MCU. That said, his biggest impact may come in the form of an unlikely hero.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been a franchise about growth while telling a cohesive and engaging story. In The Infinity Saga, this culminated in a final battle against Thanos to gain control over the Infinity Gauntlet. However, with The Multiverse Saga, Phase Four and Phase Five have succeeded in introducing new characters, setting up new villains like Kang the Conqueror, and alluding to returns from the past. Captain America: New World Order has been a great example of this, as it has multiple returning characters from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. That said, there’s one character that has continued to leave a lasting impact on the MCU even after their death — Ultron.
While Ultron first appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he never made it beyond the one film. However, his actions proved to have a lasting effect that likely contributed to Thanos’ victory in Avengers: Infinity War. Dropping Sokovia from the sky put world powers on edge, eventually leading to the Sokovia Accords, which broke apart The Avengers. However, in doing so, it also left Earth defenseless against the likes of Thanos, leading to The Blip. That said, some good came from Ultron, such as the creation of Vision. And according to one theory on Twitter, Ultron may have also created an invaluable and genius character in Amadeus Cho.
Ultron May Have Created a Super Genius in Amadeus Cho
According to the theory, Amadeus Cho’s origin may have come from a simple act conducted by Ultron on his mother, Helen Cho, when under the influence of the Mind Stone. For reference, the Maximoff twins gained their abilities after their minds got opened by the Mind Stone and activated a gene that awakened their powers. In the case of Helen Cho, she was forced to work under Ultron’s thumb and help create what would become Vision’s body. After that, she survived and had yet to be seen in the MCU again. That said, it may not be the end for the character.
In the comics, Amadeus Cho was the seventh smartest person in the world, putting a target on his head and forcing him to run from home and eventually cross paths with heroes like Hulk and Hercules. He also later became a Hulk himself following the death of Bruce Banner. Nevertheless, Cho has proven himself an invaluable addition to the Marvel Universe. In the MCU, a decade has passed, if not more, since Ultron took over Helen’s mind, and in that time, it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn that she had Amadeus and, because an Infinity Stone touched her mind, could impart genetic changes to Cho that would make him predisposed to be a genius. If so, Cho’s arrival could come at a perfect time with other great minds like Shuri, Riri Williams and Reed Richards in the picture.

Ultron Can Still Impact the MCU
Though 2015 was the last time Ultron appeared in the MCU, he’s the villain with the most buzz about a potential return. From seeing remnants of his drones in Spider-Man: Homecoming to seeing a multiversal version nearly destroy the whole of reality in What If…? Ultron’s return feels like an unspoken inevitability. But with no clear path in place for how he’d arise yet, the best way to anticipate his return could be based on his impact on the universe.
The Sokovia Accords and how that helped create tension among civilians and superheroes have become the most significant connection to Ultron. However, this fear could become even more significant and eventually evolve into hate and fear against mutants. Doing so could then introduce more computerized threats like the Sentinel program. However, should the Mind Stone have affected Helen’s genes, it could also lead to some good with the debut of Amadeus, a genius and ally to The Hulk. In the end, more than any other character, Ultron has proven that he won’t be gotten rid of easily as his influences spread beyond his physical self or the code used to create him.
